Which Bookshelves for a small room
Posted by: ChuckieEgg on 24 July 2018
Hi,
I have just purchased a Naim 112 pre and NAP 180 power amp. I`m going to use these in quite a small room. What bookshelf speakers should i consider?
Cheers,
Here's some used ones which might be great with your gear. In no particular order of preference: Linn Kan, LS3/5a, Royd Sintra, Epos M5, Naim n-Sat. I'm unsure about what is available new. Anyway might give you a few pointers...
C.
Neat Iota should be on your list too. I use them with a 72/HiCap/140 to good effect.
Somehow I overlooked Iotas. Schoolboy howler.
Proac Tablette 10
Kralk BC30
Kef LS50
ATC scm7
Found ATC SCM7's to be fantastic. Well suited to Naim amplification and not fussy around placement.
Totem speakers should be on your list. Work really well with Naim.
Dali Menuet, Proac Tablette 10, PMC DB1 Gold or a bit bigger Totem Sky
+1 for ATC SCM7
+2 for ATC SCM7. We have them in the bed room.
+3 for ATC SCM7. Great little speakers
Not sure how small you want to go, and whether they are still available, but JBL Control 1 are surprisingly good for their (tiny) size. Other JBL Control speakers are available.
Spendor A1, s3/5r, D1 or SA1. They know a thing or two about getting the smaller boxes to sing.
How small is small? My 24 foot lounge diner is miniscule compared to my brother in laws 40 foot room, but largish compared to the hotel rooms at the Bristol show. When a question was recently asked about room size I discovered the design specification for my speakers refers to a room of 70 square metres, yet my initial decision to consider them was based on a hotel room demo. Therefore if you mean small stand mount rather than an against the wall bookshelf speaker, consider Graham Audio LS6 or even the floor standing version. They sounded good at the last Bristol show.
