Go on then tease us. What were your the sq benefits?

So far the system feels grown up. Its like the difference between full fat and semi skimmed milk. More authority, greater clarity. Blooming amazing. The ps cost more than the streamer honestly even after hearing and owning the xps2 I never expected such an overall uplift in everything. Its given my system berroca

I had a similar experience with PSUs on my nDAC. I was a bit underwhelmed when trying the XPS2 over my then XP5XS.  The 555PS however was in a different league.

I’d love to hear a 555 on my 272. Till then, my dealer has an XP5XS or XPSDR which are tempting!

If I’m patient maybe a preloved DR will turn up

I don't like the Dr. Maybe you could save a fortune and go the non Dr route

That is what I use on my NDX. Had it re-capped and it still costed only 60% of a new XPS DR

On reflection Adam Z is probably right, wait until a preloved 555PS comes along

A pre loved 555 has come along and should arrive with me middle of next week. Looking forward to hearing the 272 upgraded!

I’ll need to purchase another SVT shelf as my CDX2 will remain for now. Where should the big 555 sit in the rack? My thought was

272

CDX2

555

250

This would allow the Burndy to hang without touching the floor.

That should be ok.

You can also try to swap 555 and 250 around to keep that large transformer away from the source.

Thanks Adam.

That’s great news, it will be interesting to hear just how big a step up the 555ps compared to the xpsdr.

Well after a while listening now and the 555 is warming up.   The words that spring to mind are authority, scale, detail.

In normal words it's like the difference between full fat and light mayonnaise.

Such an amazing leap in everything. I'm still gobsmacked daily, no hourly, on how good this sounds compared to the xps2.

Time for a lotto ticket then?

enjoy the NDX/555 great match

I found at a demo the bare NDX was good, only a slight uplift with XPS - with 555 different story! as you have found

my plan is either go SCDR for 282 or 555 NDX for next uprgade or NDX2 or.....................

enjoy the music!!!

That's why I have opted to keep the XP5xs on my 272, the XPSDR was marginally better but at the price difference I couldn't justify it.

Currently saving for the 555DR once I have enough funds I will then demo the 555DR and go from there, if it doesn't float my boat I will use the cash on a nice holiday

This is part of the reason I didn’t snap up the XP5XS my dealer has. I tried an XPSDR and whilst it was an improvement, I too couldn’t justify the outlay and I wondered what the XP5XS would do, if anything, in my setup. The XP5XS would have been near half what I’ve paid for a 555. I’ll wait a few years before having it serviced and then see if it’s worth trading in for a 555DR at some point in the future.

Good results can also be had by involving another person to massage one’s burndy

Do let us know how N272 sounds with this subtle power supply...
