ND555 Impressions
Posted by: Bert Schurink on 26 July 2018
The Beast will arrive and will be installed tomorrow morning in my system. So I thought it was a good moment to open up a thread with the fist experiences, also giving others the possibility to share their first impressions with the beast.
I feeel a bit like a little child who has his birthday tomorrow. I assume that even while it will be nice weather during the weekend that I will be a spending a lot of hours with my system.
And as expected my car will not arrive before the ND555.

Bob, joking aside I can never fathom out Naim delivery times waited 14 weeks for a 250dr a few years ago when deliveries were supposed to be around 4 weeks ordered my ND555 and 555PS and was told around 6 weeks both were delivered and installed within 3 weeks just unbelievable.
Very much worth the wait hope it won’t be too long.
I don’t know what to make of it all!,you waited three weeks lve waited nearly fore months, and l have one of the best dealers in the country,CRAZY!.
Sorry to hear you are still waiting Bob. Any idea what’s causing the delay?
Hi Dave ,your guess is as good as mine,.
I think it’s the anodising on the casework......I was lucky that I got one of the batch my dealer ordered....Naim release based on who ordered first.
Hi Gazza, lorded mine at the beginning of July, then it went August,September,October, now l’M beginning to get my hopes up! then when l make enquires lm told lm now looking at November,lm not blaming my dealer, but can wonder why people are now getting the hump!.
Hmmn take your point Bob, some of us have been very lucky by comparison.......but it will be worth the wait don,t give up.
I keep wanting to phone the factory up to see what they have to say,but l don’t want to go over my dealers head on this,it’s like l haven’t got any trust in him,and l have he’s a lovely block, and l know as soon as he gets it he will let me know, but l am surprised how long it’s been now.am l wrong in thinking this way, cheers everyone.
Bob, no that’s natural.....give dealer a call on Monday and ask how other forum members are getting their ND555, my dealer phoned the factory almost every day! If your dealer is a big chain of shops perhaps the sale is not as important as a dealer with only one shop.

I would say something to my dealer for sure . Let him know you are getting frustrated. He will start making phone calls. He does not want to lose a sale .
I keep on thinking l’m being a bit of a nuisance if l keep phoning him,he only has one shop but he is thought very highly of buy his custermer and has a great reputation within the industry.
I waited about 6 weeks (if I remember right) and the hold-up was the Anodizing of case-work which had to be done by a specialist manufacturer in Switzerland I think.
They had all the innards read to go - and my Dealer was asking if I wanted to have a 'naked' one, but a 'good' load of cases arrived and mine was in a shipment.
My ND555 was, I think, actually ordered, well before I placed my order, for another customer's pre-order but he dropped-out and mine got bumped-up to only the six-week delay, otherwise it would have been even longer.
When it all arrives and you get through run-in you will be delighted with it and it will be an excellent music source for many years ahead. I think if Naim chose to use the cheaper 'powder coating' finish you would have it now, but the other finish does look better - but should not be taking this time to get into stock.
DB.
Yes mine was in the same batch as DB, ordered by the dealer before they got customer orders.....but they were on the phone chasing/ confirming for DB and myself.
I hope my dealers not reading all this hell now lve been complaining!,thanks DB and GAZZA,regards bob.

Your dealer is just as frustrated as you are. He does not have a completed sale till he gets the ND555 in stock . So I doubt he is very happy about the delay by Naim in providing the product .
I’m not blaming my dealer at all,but l would just like some idea when l can expect it ,l or two or three weeks, just so l know.

Your dealer should call Naim and give you an answer.
Nobody knows the facts here so please let's avoid speculation. The only ones who know are Naim and the dealer. Naim are very fair to their dealers in allocating units in demand, and they try to ensure that it's fulfilled in an orderly manner. However, there may be some issue or other that is causing a problem.
Bob, your dealer and Naim are the only ones who can resolve this for you. In your position I would be chasing the dealer hard here. Otherwise, by all means get in touch with Naim directly and see whether someone can sort something out.

Bob, I feel your frustration, but the only person who can answer that is your dealer.
There’s a couple of reviews of the NDX2 but with the demand for the 555 exceeding supply for the moment there seems little need for more publicity. To drive demand up now would just lead to more customers frustrated by the wait.
I was listening to the rip of disk 13 of the Sandt Denny box yesterday. It’s a mixture of some solo and some Fairport era stuff but mostly taken from radio broadcasts of variable quality, some of them really quite marginal with distortion and noises off but it kept me riveted.
