ND555 Impressions
Posted by: Bert Schurink on 26 July 2018
The Beast will arrive and will be installed tomorrow morning in my system. So I thought it was a good moment to open up a thread with the fist experiences, also giving others the possibility to share their first impressions with the beast.
I feeel a bit like a little child who has his birthday tomorrow. I assume that even while it will be nice weather during the weekend that I will be a spending a lot of hours with my system.
And as expected my car will not arrive before the ND555.
+1 Peder!
Could there be a reason for reqoting so many times with this particular album cover included, I wonder?

For a realistic size, flip to a previous page.......?
Or......Mike's brand new post below!
...or have a new one:
After a week of intermittent lighting up issues on the remote, and two battery changes, I rang the dealer yesterday to report a movement sensor issue. No problem. A new remote will be got. I went back to the sofa, picked up the remote, and it worked perfectly. And it has ever since. Cheeky little thing.
ND555 sounds wonderful. Still. So that's something.
Oh come on Harry, we’ve moved on - this is a Melody Gardot thread now!!
Peter
There's no diverting back to the boring ND555 now!

Before I didn’t need to stay until the end with this album, while I also on the NDS liked this album and the feedback you hear. Now this album is pure magic. The air, soundstage, accuracy of voice etc....absolutely recommended....
Whatever about selling ND555, it certainly looks like a good way of selling Melody Gardot!
After reading Berts post, I listened to this album in Tidal, and I fully agree that it showcases the ND555 perfectly, ( and Melody also). I then bought the 24 bit version, which improves on Tidal. Only problem now is how to explain to my spouse the image displayed in my previously non controversial streamer display.
You can start with explaining why the guitar she is playing is so special, perhaps that helps ......
If it helps you could say that it’s a Gibson ES335. If you were caught studying it very closely, you might even say that you’re not certain if, in fact, it’s an ES345 or even an ES355 (I think that might be testing of even the greatest Gibson aficionado with the limited visibility in this picture).
I appreciate other parts of the picture.......
I know nothing of this artist.....is it the lady in question or just a album cover photo shoot of a model, if it’s the former....very brave.
If you don’t know her you should check her out, amazing voice.
Amazing voice. Insipid material. No amount of getting your arse out will change that.
Diana Krall, Melanie Gardot, Norah Jones, Madeleine Peroux, Jane Monteit, Cyrille Aimee,....all the same syrupy jazz music. No thanks. Music made to make any average system sound fantastic. Sorry but I don’t share.

Each to their own...
While this music makes our systems sound fantastic, lord knows that there is so much more music out there that makes our systems sound lousy, so I don't mind a little syrupy jazz, but its not a big thing for me either. Its like sugar--a little in moderation--including moderation.

Just take a listen to Melody Gardot's 'Currency Of Man' album. Surupy Jazz it certainly is not, and will stretch the very best of systems. Who needs a curvy a**e, when the music is this good.
YMMV.
One of the characteristics of a good system is that it make anything sound good, because it communicates the information that really matters. I don't have so many "bad" sounding albums nowadays.

Melody, apparently.

Quite. This is where the returns haven’t deminished.
Is vocal jazz, jazz? ????

For any Naim fans in the NY area, we recently received our demo ND 555 at Innovative Audio and have been warming it up since then. Stop by if you would like to hear this wonderful new streamer for yourself. I'll add my listening observations over the next few weeks. My initial sense is that this is both a nice evolution of the already excellent NDS performance, and also a revolutionary upward lift of the whole Naim 500 series ultimate performance level. We are partnering the ND 555 with a complete 500 series suite of electronics, including the wonderful 500 DR power amp. These are all playing very nicely with a pair of the mighty Wilson Alexia 2 loudspeakers.
Good listening,
Bruce

That feels the wrong way round to me. I don’t expect music to make my system sound fantastic, I chose my systems because they help me to enjoy the music I love.

One thing that is great about Jazz is that there a few, if any, limits. Is this a new European directive that Jazz cannot be vocal?
And, another thing......why can't bananas be straight?

These days I think they are allowed to chose their sexual orientation and gender, and to change their mind.

Don't misunderstand, it is every bananas right to be....err.....bent, and I have no problem with that. Some of my best friends..........enough, enough!

Look, I am all for European liberalisation, but there comes a point.......
My heartfelt apologies to the OP for this brazen and ridiculous thread drift.
I shall perpetuate it no more….honest guv.
Now…..back to the ND555.

Had a quick listen on uTube, nothing to like at all for me even if she has a good voice - and that picture isn’t exactly enchanting enough for multiple posting - it gives no clue as to what the audience may see, though that may be less inspiring than the picture might suggest - music and image of course are both a matter of taste...
In these examples of things that sound excellent on ND555, classical has been highlighted as well as jazz, but I’m not sure anything alse - however I presume the ND555 is good at all styles(?). The question for me if I were to win the lottery would be is it better than Dave with music I like - sometimes things that might excel at jazz don’t with everything else
