ND555 Impressions
Posted by: Bert Schurink on 26 July 2018
The Beast will arrive and will be installed tomorrow morning in my system. So I thought it was a good moment to open up a thread with the fist experiences, also giving others the possibility to share their first impressions with the beast.
I feeel a bit like a little child who has his birthday tomorrow. I assume that even while it will be nice weather during the weekend that I will be a spending a lot of hours with my system.
And as expected my car will not arrive before the ND555.
Agreed - Dealer should physically visit and install it - unless you stop them and insist you are an expert. I always let my Dealer do this even though I know how it works.

Me too. It saves a lot of issues, like these and time, even if you can do it yourself.
RICHYH posted:I forgot to say, I have 3 routers set up to get through some thick walls in my house and as DB states they work as a slave to the main one and all connect well from anywhere.
If you know what you are doing then using another slave Router has advantages in preserving a 'quiet' HiFi LAN if you set it all up correctly. That is in future for me, as I find I get the same result by turning off other network items when listening to the HiFi and wanting maximum performance.
It is easier to start with one Router - get that going - then consider other options from an already and simple working LAN was my advise.

Just check it seems like asus have just brought out some range extenders.....I will look into this
If you have an old router knocking about you can set it up as an extender. I have old BT hubs distributed all through the house as extenders. I used to have a weak WiFi signal in the lounge and this made the NDS flaky to operate via an iPad. A strong signal has made life very easy. We have an iPad which lives in the lounges which is used just for music and iRadio. It talks to an old BT HH2 in the lounge which is an extender. The ND555 is hard wired, naturally.
I had a few issues with the app following an iOS update recently but I think there’s been another since, the current one is 12.0.1. I can’t comment on the app version.
this page here near the bottom has a support menu if you haven’t found it, it ought to come up from help in the app but Naim haven’t put a link there for some reason, just one to the quick start guide.

I completely agree!

Better solutions have been proposed on the forum in the past. You are setting yourself up for aggravation if you just start throwing devices on your network hoping to fix your issues. I strongly recommend paying a few hundred to have an expert come in and do it right the first time.

Credit where credit is due. It was me!
Out of interest, I ask, who was your dealer as I think they should have sorted it and installed it, I notice you were having problems with the transit screws also!!!
I expect dealer expertise and resource will vary. My local Naim dealer will install, upgrade, troubleshoot and advise on networks.
They also strongly advocate that they do all the equipment installs. I believe that all Naim dealers will offer to install. Mine gives the whole rack a going over , breaking down the Fraim, rebuild, tighten up, dress cables and clean it, when something new arrives. They call it a "mini service".
Mine too. Have been exemplary over the years, they have audio in their name and tablet contains the other part twice.. credit where credits due. Thats why I ask.
Hi all finally go it running!!!..... I am not using naim app ... but roon and it loves it full control from phone.....it's great!!! The naim app is not good ... its very poor that naim have released this.....
Unit sounds great I have literally had 5mins with it and the benefits are there ...... I now have to sort out a remote link for control of the 552 volume.......
Thanks for you advice so far....cheers
Glad you got it sorted.
I'm not a huge fan of the Naim app either. Unlike the sound quality, which I am a huge fan of. So I forgive the app.
Rich, glad you got it sorted and hope it meets and possibly exceeds your expectations. I spent this afternoon going back thru some forum recommendations just using a Tidal, it’s a very special streamer.

Well done for persevering with it. Your ears are in for a treat, let the stress of the day melt away!

Well done and glad you have eventually got it sorted. But your silence to my question has me wondering, did you buy it in car boot sale?
Hi Richyh I am not one for dealers coming round to my home ... I like what I like...I am quite a private person...I make no apologies..
No problem. I hope you take my humour as intended.
Now you can enjoy your music!!

We are the same. Very few people get to see the inside of our house. We do admit a select trusted few. Occasionally. I understand where you are coming from.

something to hide?
Yeah 6 bodies under patio
I got it going by 1st looking at my nuc and nd555 was on network. I then decided to ignore full manual setup and hit internet radio and bingo it worked. I then went into Roon which saw the nd555 as an endpoint.....and configured it. However.... I will have to sort out the naim app as there appears to be some more functionality .... available that I am currently missing. ...currently the artwork with roon works....bun I cannot get it to hibernate....I think the naim app installation is very poor....something needs to be done...anyway it's working and it runs allot cooler than the red hot nds.

Oh nothing to worry about, quite normal for an audiophile...
Have you paired the remote? It’s even less useful than the app but it can control the screen turning off during replay which the app can’t, it may also be able to put it on standby but I haven’t checked that.
