Mac (Audirvana Plus 3) to Muso - Hi-Res?
Posted by: Sebinho9 on 27 July 2018
Hi everyone, first of all, thanks to all of you for your various posts. I've done loads of research over the past year or so and that has led me to buy a Muso and Muso Qb (with my eye firmly on an Atom for when we finish the lounge).
One thing I haven't been able to piece together from the various threads related to this subject - is it possible to stream hi-res audio (24bit 192khz) wirelessly to a Muso?
I have tried streaming Tidal MQAs using my Mac, but Airplay limits it to 44.1khz. So then I tried downloading the trial version of Audirvana Plus 3, to use as if it were a music server via UPnP. When playing Ella Fitzgerald's Sings Sweet Songs For Swingers, Audirvana showed "DAC 24/96kz" and on the right "MQA 24/192hz Stereo". Does that mean it is working? It sounds great but I'm sceptical about how much more detail is in MQA in any event. Is it not just a compressed file by another name?
Finally, the specifications of the Muso on the Naim site make me think that if streaming via wifi, it can't accept more than 48khz anyway - "All formats to 48kHz maximum over wireless network.". Though that may be outdated and have been fixed with new firmware. Should I just be happy enough with 44.1khz/16bit? If the bitrate is higher than 320, does that make any difference? e.g. my old ripped lossless CD music is 44.1/16 but have 1000+ bitrates.
Yours in thanks and confusion
Seb
