Naim grey snaics

Posted by: Bob the Builder on 27 July 2018

I have just bought an Olive Hicap to replace the Dual TC on my 102/180 it’s used and doesn’t come with a snaic.  I already have two grey snaics but cannot remember if they  carry both power and signal or just signal.

Is there any way of telling by looking or is it possible and not harmful to just try them and see?

might be best to re-post this in the HiFi Corner

Cheers

Pretty sure snaics carry both power and signal.

You will need two Snaics

4pin and 5pin

HC manual is helpfull and can be downloaded

Grey is old type, Black is new if we are talking Naim's Snaics.

You will need a Snaps if replacing the dualTC.

I presume you mean a NAPSC? Not essential, but certainly a good idea.

A very good one, I dare say.

Well after the hicap.

And ditching those great snaics the best of all.

Been there

You will probably (as I did) find the Olive Hicap a bit more useful than the "unmentionable" D..l T...p.

NAPSC, yes, thanks for correction

Thank you for all of the above advice and help very gratefully recieved as always. I already have a couple of Napsc but am on the lookout for an Olive one to match the rest of my kit.  I'm still a bit in the dark but one of my snaics has a green collar so only a signal carrying interconnect the other is identical and has a white collar so probably just an earlier interconnect I suppose.

In fact I recall the early Napsc were "just a black box, nothing Olive to match, I'm told later ones, classic black are better, no idea why.?

Bob, take a look here:

https://forums.naimaudio.com/t...cs-and-interconnects

You'll see that a green-banded SNAIC is a SNAIC5.  A white-banded SNAIC is a SNAIC4. Provided they are genuine they will both carry power (single rail for the SNAIC4, dual-rail for the SNAIC5) as well as signal.
