Music stops and loses connection after pause or stop

Been having a problem with the Naim app over the past few months. If I am playing some music then pause or stop it, when I return to it after a while and click play, the music resumes from were I left off for a few moments then stops, with the ‘no track playing’ message. I’ve got a fairly robust network set up using a Synology NAS, AirPort Extreme and express etc so not sure if this is a problem with the app. The same happened when I did a recent demo of a core, with music playing via  upnp. is this an issue anyone else is experiencing?

I suspect that this is normal, depending of course on how long ‘a while’ is. The few seconds is very likely what is still contained in the streamer’s buffer. Certainly when I’ve gone back to the app to resume play after ‘a while’ I’ve needed to re-choose the album again.

Oh ok thanks HH. By a while, I mean for example going to eat dinner so 20 to 30 mins. Good to know it’s not abnormal behaviour.

It could be that that the mobile device is dropping it's WiFi connection and the app isn't recovering properly.  There are known issues around this.

I experienced the same. Can be annoying when you are in the middle of an album...

I just tried it on my system iPad/NDX/Synology.   It does the same for me but only after the Synology goes into hibernation after (my selected) 15 minutes of inactivity.

Hi Mike-B. Where is this option found for my Synology? I don’t recall ever setting a hibernation time but would like to investigate further?

Maybe the streamer needs to hold the http-request open for being able to continue to stream, but either the upnp-server or the client itself has a timeout and drops the connection after some minutes, even without hibernation? And maybe² the stream cannot be restarted from somewhere in the middle of it?

Control Panel > Hardware & Power - open tab HDD Hibernation & the rest is self explanatory.

What your specific Synology can do with hibernation depends on its spec, some are more than just basic.  However there are many things that can stop it from hibernating & you need to go read https://www.synology.com/en-uk...hardware_hibernation.        The most obvious for an audio user is having the NAS constantly available (visable) with MS-Windows Network Sharing Service enabled,  but as its only required (in my case) when I want to upload an album or to work on the 'Music' share tree via MS-Windows I find it perfectly OK to disable it & to only have it enabled as & when I need to work on the files via Windows;  to enable/disable open Control Panel > File Services - open SMB/AFP/NFS tab & disable/enable (checkbox) SMB & 'Apply'

That’s great. Cheers Mike
