Core Digital connection

Has anybody had / heard of the following problem?

Using the app (Core) I select an album to play and action accordingly via digital connection (Dig 1 in 272), after a number of tracks (no pattern) it will stop playing (waits until the end of a song) and when I try and re select the next track it acknowledges that the tracks are added but no music, just shows as waiting to play, I.e press play button (when pressing nothing happens).

If I then go into the app (272) and choose the Core via upnp, choose album then all plays ok....

Same problem with my Core. I use an NDX.

I had a problem kind of similar when I first got my Core. What it was,i overfilled the SSD hard drive in the Core, and the power button kept flashing every few minutes.David Hendon helped me sort through it,by first deleting the music off the hard drive that I had just copied from a separate external drive. This left only the CD rips on the SSD,and I plug the drive into the rear USB port now.In my case though, songs only played for about 30 seconds, then stopped,so I am  not sure it’s the same.I am sure David can help you too,if not,Naim support.

This is just speculation, but is the streamer/app somehow confused by having the Core visible through two different inputs? If so, what happens if you disable the UPnP input on the app (then restart everything). Does it then behave itself?

I had a similar problem last year Core/NDX via ethernet changing from an Android device to a IOS device as recommended by my dealer solved the problem.

I confirmed this was an App problem by using the controls on the NDX to play music from the Core when using the front buttons the music would play at all times without stopping at certain tracks.

When using the app the  problem was totally random you could play several CDs without a problem then the next two or three would stop etc etc.

My understanding is that it’s best to use the device in the app for track selection , rather than via the Core selection. You could reboot your router though, as that will reassign the IP address which may be confusing the app, I sometimes had that issue with my Cute. Also restarting the Core from a deep sleep may help.

I've had a similar sort of thing happen a couple of times

It was me trying to swop to another track and back too quickly which seemed to confuse the core...

Had to turn it off and back on to get it working again..but fairly sure it was me ..not the core at fault

Unplugged Core and  then restarted, now ok....but why / how does this happen in the first instance?

I've had the same symptoms without using a core, instead using upnp from a nas.

I'm not sure if it's the app or the 272 that gets in a muddle, but a quick power cycle always fixes it.

There is no problem with having two connections simultaneously from the Core. It treats the direct connection differently to the upnp connection and you have to control the music with the right part of the app, but that is all.

As No Quarter said, if your internal HDD is almost full, the Core behaves unpredictably. I don't know why that is but I recall Manu saying that he had seen this problem himself. But I guess this isn't your issue.

I have sometimes found that you can tell the Core to play an album, it adds the files to the playlist but nothing happens. Restarting the app normally fixes that, but if it didn't then restarting the Core and/or the streamer would be the next thing to try.

As to why this happens, I don't know. If it happens repeatedly then feeding that back to Naim through the feedback option in the app would be a good plan.

Pretty annoying for a music server that you have to re-start once in a while to get him fulfilling its purpose. I'm pretty worring  as I'm reading the posts as I'm expecting my Core to come home any time now.

Hope naim is already aware of this and will correct it through next firmware revision
