NDX2

Has anyone pre ordered or managed a dealer demo?

My dealer suggested late August.

By good like Bert ND555 thread to get some thoughts and much anticipated comparisons.

Yes my dealer has said the same, end of August, though he hopes to hear one himself shortly, so perhaps the Naim rep is calling in to give a private dealer demo. I personally expect it to be similar quality to NDS, but with a punchier sound, sort of a much more refined Nova. Which it basically is, no preamp circuitry, ability to take an external power supply, but same DAC as Nova with better support circuitry and isolation. This is why I have not ordered a ND555, I need to hear both.

also awaiting dealer demo - I think they are all saying "summer" i have booked to the [@mention:1566878603906177] ND55 demo - so may be more info then from Jason & NAIM on NDX2 which is more my budget

I am very keen to hear it as I love my NDX,  not sure when if ordered the models will arrive with you?

My dealer normally orders several units with his demo unit. I waited a week for my Nova after demo, got one of his preorders.

Yes same here like the Uniti line, My dealer ordered a small batch with the demo unit.

Well, the latest HFNRR just arrived and inside is a review of the NDX2 from Andrew Everard (and Paul Miller doing the technical measurement tests). He seems to like it very much...

The 555 will surely be way better (than an NDS), question is home much vs NDX2 ????

My dealer won't have a ND555 as demo, when I do Demo The NDx2 I might venture further just to compare (dream) vs the ND555 and realise unless I have all 500 series application it is wasted, or it is not that far away from the NDX2 ????

Hey Obsydian, i just bought online the last Hifi news:   my english is approximate. I understood that Everardt still prefers the nds.  I understood he said that nds has more boogie factor, has more details and have more naim sound vs the ndx2.  Can you confirm and tell me if i understood well?

I read it that he feels the NDX2+555PS digs up a touch more detail against the slight extra boogie factor of the NDS. Either way, he's coming at it having had the NDS at home for quite some time.  What's interesting is that he feels the NDX2 appears to be vying with the NDS and on a similar level bar the "swings and roundabouts".  But as always, take a listen for yourself as you'll be the final judge.

RICHARD - Thanks ????

FRENCH ROOSTER - That's good news for NDS owners But also potential NDX2 buyers.

You know I really want to go back an demo an olive system (amplification) to gauge the evolving Naim sound, too many choices ????

That said I really enjoy the single box Nova, as a reasonable compromise.

thanks Obsydian, my nds seems to be not broken !   good news as you said.     Curious to know how the olive system can sound for you.

Posted on: 01 August 2018 by Eoink

I run an olive system and a Nova. Probably unsurprisingly the older system has better timing, pace and weight with a purer top end than the newer system, it's not really fair to compare NDX/82/Supercap/2*135 into B&W 804S to the much smaller Nova/PMC 25.23s. I would say that the Nova still feels like a Naim system to me, it handles complex music well and draws out the strands, it has fine ability to handle drive and timing of the music, I really enjoy listening to it and  don't feel short-changed musically when I'm in the upstairs lounge. The olives have greater drive and "PRAT" than the Nova, but I'm not sure whether that is a change of style over time or whether it's just the fact that it's comparing a very near top of the range system of its time  to an all in one.

Yes went olive became the classic line, I sold up and bought a Bose IPod speaker ???? used it twice and travelled allot and just used an iPod ????

I do like the Uniti sound, but in all honesty have no appreciation of how or if the olive - classic - Uniti - NDX2 sound has evolved.

One thing for sure is the men in white coats at Naim ???? are pushing the boundaries with tried and tested tech the know.

I am thinking my demo will be:

ND5 streamer (the new one) / SN2

NDX2 / SN2

272/250DR

NOVA - As reference datum

And if possible 72/140 and ND5 streamer (the new one) / SN2

And a fantasy ND555 / SN2, out of curiosity, but that has a habit of ending badly (on the wallet).

Nova is mighty fine but then it’s my first naim for about 10 yrs when I had a xs2

Thanks EIONK, I must admit I've gone for longing boxes and glowing lights (night time listening), the loving the ease, accessibility to the Uniti range.

Suppose could always do a JV and move all the power type boxes out of sight with a long run of A5 or and SDS drill thought the wall for cables ???? then pretend I have 1 box simplicity.

Posted on: 01 August 2018 by David Hendon

I have two small speakers in our day/dining room and the speaker cables go through a hole in the adjacent wall to the Unitiqute that sits with the main HiFi system in a side room off the sitting room. It makes it quite discreet (and grandchild-proof as the speakers are on top of a wall unit).

you can hide the boxes in a big nice trunk ( old case) with drills at the back for cables....

I wonder how run in the NDX2 was that was reviewed. We know it takes an age for Naim equipment to run in so there could be further improvement to come.

If you look at my pictures on System Pics, my lounge downstairs is T-shaped, so the rack of olives, the Mana table with the Roksan TT and the 1m * 1.5m custom LP storage cupboard sit in a bar of the T out of sight of the sofas, all that is in view is the pair of B&Ws. WIthout that I'm pretty sure my late wife would have stuck them in a skip.

It's interesting that Naim seem to have got the NDX2 up to a very similar level to the NDS, from what the article says, given it has a 1792A delta sigma DAC versus the pair of much praised 1704 ladder DACs in the NDS. Makes you think there are some real improvements that have taken place on the design of the streaming platform. I am going to wait for a test of the ND5 XS2 as that has the same DAC (1791A) as the outgoing NDX and may match a bare one to all intents and purposes. Just think - won't have to switch the screen off to improve the AQ either.
