So I've bought a 555PS DR ..
Posted by: Dan.S on 02 August 2018
..For my 272 on the end of a 250DR. Got it for a really good price, the seller was gracious enough to even accept a pretty low offer after assuring him the unit will be much loved (I hope) and flipping it is out of the question.
Due to moving countries and houses, I wont be able to have a listen to the system for at least another couple of months as it sits in boxes at the moment. But that's not a reason why you shouldn't comment on what kind of treat I'm gonna be in for.

Also the new 555dr versions come supplied with the PowerLine not sure how far back this goes maybe 2012 when the DR came out
Wonder what a PowerLine would do to my XP5xs and use this as a stop gap until I locate/afford a 555DR?
Then move the PowerLine to my 250DR to replace the supplied PowerLine lite that came with the 250.

Pretty much the same thing it does for a 'bare' source.
Indeed, just so... It carries mains electricity to it!
Knew that was coming [@mention:36201736971392588] !
Pleased to meet your expectations [@mention:51970829741422995]
It sounds like you got yourself a good deal Dan & I am very sure that when you are able to install that you will not be disappointed: the difference it make is not a subtle one in my opinion. No regrets from when I upgraded. I do however apologise to any XPSDR folk reading this since my words & those of others are likely to inflame the upgraditis so often mentioned - HH was responsible for my bout
I think the XPS is a bargain and the XPS DR is a very good deal for the performance and cost, especially preloved. The 555 cost quite a lot of money, much more than the XPS. I have sold both my XPS and XPS DR and have now upgraded to 555 non-dr and a brand new 555DR coming in. As always with Naim, IMHO, you get what you pay for:-)
IMHO, a preloved nDac and XPS is a very cost effective way of getting a whole lotta fun out of reproducing music digitally. The danger is that it will lead you down the path of getting two 555PS´ and NDS/ND555. Danger. Danger!

Oops, sorry!! Now you just need that 300DR.
Ive just realised this morning, whilst improving my cables dressing, that the Burndy supplied is an NA-XPS. What would I gain if I changed to an S-XPS?
The 555DR replacing an XPSDR is not about more and such. In my view it's about a very different, natural and lifelike musical presentation. More music.

As I understand it, the S-XP’ has a much improved design than the XP’s Burndy.... Which can only mean it will enhance everything again, more detail ect ect
I’ll have to get you to pop round with yours for a comparison one evening Wenger.

Sounds like a plan...
The S-XPS Burndy had revised and improved cable geometry. It sounds better than the earlier XPS Burndy.
Forgive me if I'm missing something. Isnt the xps burndy just carrying power. No signal. So the only thing that would affect sq would be increased shielding to prevent unwanted nasties leaving and causing interference in the signal leads or head unit?
Hi [@mention:1566878603891207]. I’ve found different power cables make a difference to the sound, so i’m sure the newer Burndy will affect the sound too. Fortunately [@mention:50422349809511500] only lives round the corner so he can bring his S-XPS Burndy over to compare to my older version.
On my system, adding a naim Dac to the 272/250DR made more of a difference than adding a xpsdr to it.
If you put in a search their is a number of comments on the new design S-XP’s compared to the older version, all seem to suggest it’s better.... just how much better?
Hopefully over the next few days I can arrange to let Finkfan try mine and then he can share his findings...
Got no doubt it will sound better. But only because its got better shielding and components.
Richard previously described it as better cable geometry.....
Finkfan....How’s that 555ps sounding, now it’s had a few days to bed in??
I assume it’s still sounding great. Unfortunately I’ve had a heavy cold which has dulled my hearing quite a bit so not had a decent listen all weekend. Hopefully it will clear up in the next few days.
Yeah sorry to go off topic. The 555 is awesome wish I had simply missed out the xps.

Hope your feeling better soon, perhaps try a brandy or three to help things along....
