How Good Is The Nova.

Where does the Nova fit in the Naim hierarchy by in terms of sound quality, is it better than a 272/200 for example?

Hi Nick,
I'm really sorry that you've had this issue with your Nova ... I don't think we've had a Nova yet that has let "the magic smoke" out!
If you can drop me an email over to support@naimaudio.com giving me the serial number of your unit and who your dealer is then I'll get a swapout unit arranged with them for you and I'm sure that the R&D guys will be eager to pull your one apart when it gets back here.
Best
Phil

Hi Phil, thanks for the reply, I have contacted Naim support on Saturday and I’m waiting for a promised phone call today to sort out a replacement . Can’t wait to replace it as I was really enjoying it and I e been 3 days without music.

Hi Nick,
The front line support guys haven't yet passed me on your phone number to call you (so if you wish to email me with your phone number at support@naimaudio.com I can give you a call if you wish) but all warranty / replacement units are arranged via your dealer so if you can give me the information above (serial number and dealer that you purchased it from) then I can get your replacement unit arranged.
The front line support guys themselves cannot actually arrange for a replacement unit for you, they can only advise us of units that need to be replaced which then has to be done via the dealer.
Best Regards
Phil Harris
Nick, Phil is actually the factory and probably a fair way further up the chain, so if I were in your shoes I'd follow his advice; get in touch with him by the email address provided and supply the serial number and supplying dealer info. Also I would get in touch with your dealer as they should be your first point of contact and nothing can be done without them in the loop.

Hi Richard, I have done both as advised.

Excellent Nick. I hope it gets quickly sorted for you.
Just picked my replacement Nova up from Audio Venue in Ealing, a big thanks to Naim and Audio Venue for great service and customer support. Now I’m off for a listen!

That’s great Nick.......sometimes the forum gets misused IMO to give Naim a drubbing( I stand accused as well). But you cannot fault the service you got.......none of this what did you do wrong sir. Just replace and we will work out what went wrong. Well done Phil , your dealer and Naim.
Great news Nick. Enjoy!
After a month of ownership, I love my Nova. It drives my ATC40's to stupid levels and sounds superb. For me, what makes owning the Nova special is the small things, like as soon as I open the App the Nova fires itself up and of course that lovely crisp display. I kept hold of my Plinius P10 Power amp assuming I would need it to drive my 40's as they are suppose to be difficult to drive, not needed whatsoever Even the remote is horny!

That’s interesting as I sold my atc scm19’s when I got my nova as I thought they would be a struggle.... maybe not then but hey too late now!

I'm curious on how you run your Nova, with a NAP300. I'm in no doubt the 300 adds a lot, how is a bare Nova compared to Nova/300 and is this part of a future plan going separates?
I wonder if a bare Nova or adding my 250dr could be a good plan, In the wait of a 272.2 or 372. 555ps could be set on hold. I find it hard and not needed for musical joy, to go separates with an NDX2/ pre/psu at the moment.

I’ve had my Nova for around a month and really enjoying it with Totem Forest Signatures. Totems have a looooong break in and are still opening up, but you know it’s all coming together. I don’t think I would go seperates, but it would be interesting how much more investment would be required for a significant lift in sound whilst avoiding an endless circle of upgrades?
During my hunt for speakers earlier this year, ATC SCM 40's, a number of dealers brought out a Nova to act as the source, (I have a SU.)
I thought it to be an excellent product, improving on the SU in almost every respect.
I also tried adding a NAP 250dr to the Nova and I found this to give a worth while improvement in terms of control and clarity.

I would love to add a power amp but it takes away one of the things I love about the Nova, the remote power on/off. Its my one big moan, why oh why couldn't Naim fit a Trigger in and out? My previous MF preamp had these and I used one for the power amp and one to switch it to the AV input when my Anthem fired up. I have to do that manually now for the AV, and I dont mind that but with a power amp I would have to leave it on 24/7 and I dont like to do that otherwise I would probably use my Plinius P10 thats now going spare.
The bigger Naim power amps have their power switch at the front, so easy to switch on or off as needed with a finger push.

No I’m in Bristol, I bought from Audio Venue as they had the best deal on a Nova. They were really good when my Nova developed a fault. It was a pain having to drive to Ealing (a 4 hour round trip) to pick up my replacement as Naim insists on returning the unit to the supplying dealer. I would recommend them.
