Android app

Sorry this is not my first post on this and I am aware Naim is working on improving the Android app but, in the interim, does anyone have any recommendations on apps that deliver the same theoretical functionality of the Naim Android app. For me the app is very poor at the moment and rarely connects with my NAS - I have talked about this with support and they suggested Whaale as an alternative but this seems aimed at multi-room which is not a concern for me - it also seems to have an opaque charging structure.
Does your router broadcast 2.4 & 5 GHz on the same SSID ? I
Nope. Media monkey and is audio apps all work fine as far as finding NAS goes. I have exhausted all routes o: enquiry over the past four months. Main support only offer hope that app will improve in the future.
So I am seeing if there is anything else out there?
You can use BubbleUPnP to stream from your NAS.
Thanks that works fine. Familiar with it to as used Bubble Next for Linn. My trouble is that it does not quite offer what the Naim app does in terms of all round functionality? (Radio stations & podcasts) however this morning I have opened my Naim app and half an hour later I am atually listening to something with BubbleDS :-). Today I seem to have three Novas appearing in the app and no volume control (well it is at 80 and does not want to change).
I will switch to Bubble DS now until at least the next Android relealease for the Naim app. I would have thought this type of experience is doing Naim no good. Odd that in the plethora of positive professional reviews of the new Naims you never see any reference to probles with the app.
I know there has been a few whinges and indeed I've moaned too - see "Naim App - Tidal gets stuck in a loop"
Assuming your Nova is wired have you made sure the WiFi is turned off and only the wired connection is on? Any Network Switches between the Nova and ISP router ?
As you have said previously you have separate SSIDs for WiFi try using the 2.4GHz one if you aren't already.
Is the Nova on the latest Firmware (4.6) ?
Nova not wired. Tried both 2.4GHz and 5GHz to no effect.
Nova on latest firmware.
All I can suggest is to reinstall the Naim App and see if that helps. Clearly network traffic goes between the Nova and the UPnP servers as you can hear music with BubbleUPnP.
Thanks yes Media Monkey and Roon worked fine as well :-) I have re-installed the app three or four times and reset the Nova similarly. Life is good fora day or so and then it all falls apart again.
Life is too short - I will go with Bubble until Naim app receives update.
Glad it's OK, even for now.
Does your Wifi-router offer the option to disable IGMP Snooping? If so you can try if upnp components are explored quicker with igmp disabled. Also if there are other devices on the route between your wifi access point and your NAS it might be a try to disable IGMP on these, too.
also it might be an idea to try the BubbleUPnPServer (not to mixed up with the app) on your NAS. This server can be cobfigured as a proxy before your upnp server that works around some issues of some upnp servers.
Thanks Gert,
I have Google Wi Fi which I understnad does not do IGMP.
I use minimserver on my Synology NAS. I could try BubbleUPnPServer which would I guess sit nicely with my BubbleUPNP control point but I have something that now works and have reached the end of trying to get the Naim app to 'play'. At this moment in time the Naim app seems to have regressed and is unable even to bring up radio channels.
I am going to stay as I am until an update to the app comes out. I was going to get a Muso for the kitchen but I cannot imagine the rest of the family enjoying the experience currently.
I can see the comment very expensive paper weight this Muso thing Paul/Dad :-)

This is the biggest problem with such issues. I myself maybe could live with a workaround, but such critics that you earn from others are the main frustrating thing in such cases.
Yep utimately they have a point too....
Thanks for the help.
New app is out and it is a substantial improvement. I can pretty well guarantee to access my NAS now. It is still glitchy - occassionally gets tuck, e.g. today switched from Qobuz to NAs and could not move off the playlist I was on before using Qobuz. Had to reopen couple of times.
So markedly better but not quite there yet. There are features I would like to see but base functionality needs to be worked on first.
