Uniti 2 speaker cable

Posted by: Tonygg on 15 August 2018

hi everyone.  Ive just re-joined the forum and am considering a further improvement to my system which consists of the following:  Naim Uniti 2 all in one and Spendor s5E speakers.  Although the Spendors are very good I just feel a need for more excitement, if that's the right word, in the presentation.  I use the supplied Naim cables and my listening distance is under 3 metres (quite a small room really)

I am considering standmount speakers instead of the Spendors.  I like all types of music so looking for a good all rounder.

So the question is, speaker upgrade, cable upgrade or electronics upgrade.  reckon I have about £1k

Look forward to your views

Thanks

Russell K speakers are exiting listening to, need a bit distance to rear wall though.

Neat Iota, Rega or perhaps Totem, Dynaudio..Lots og choices

I would not spend a fortune on cables, perhaps some Mogami/Van Damme, Cable Talk or used Tellurium, Chord, Atlas, Linn.

Every time I have listened to Russel K speakers I have enjoyed them, but have eventually purchased something else as they are a bit relentless to my ears after a long session. If you can borrow them for a few days that would be ideal.

Gazza, my experience exactly (other than I remain with what I have rather than purchase something new)

Yep and Russel K himself is a lovely guy to spend some time with and play music with.....but they we’re just not the right speakers for me for extended listening. Though many people love them , so please demo as they are special, just see if you can get a home demo.

Do you need the CD player? If not how about trading the Uniti 2 vs a Nova. I have both in different places. When I went shopping for the system for my city apartment, I started with the Atom and demoed Star and Nova too. The differences are quite noticeable between the three. I think the Nova is a notable step up on the Uniti 2. I hardly ever use the CD player. For me the premium to the Nova was totally worth it. Upgrade speakers later when you've saved some more $$$ :-)

It’ll take some impressive haggling skills to make that upgrade for a grand!

Hi,

Do bare in mind that you will need to budget for some good stands if you're considering stand mount speakers.

Anyway, i'm going to suggest you listen to a pair of Neat Motive SX3 speakers with your Uniti 2 and NAC A5 cables, a little over budget perhaps, unless you go second hand of course, but they could be what you're looking for and they work really well in small listening environments, oh and are regarded as taptastic too.
