Stand mounts for Uniti 2

Posted by: Tonygg on 16 August 2018

hi everyone.  Ive just re-joined the forum and am considering a further improvement to my system which consists of the following:  Naim Uniti 2 all in one and Spendor s5E speakers.  Although the Spendors are very good I just feel a need for more excitement, if that's the right word, in the presentation.  I use the supplied Naim cables and my listening distance is under 3 metres (quite a small room really)

I am considering standmount speakers instead of the Spendors because of the size of the room.  I like to listen at low levels and I like all types of music so looking for a good all rounder.

So the question is, speaker upgrade, cable upgrade or electronics upgrade.  reckon I have about £1k

Look forward to your views

Thanks

I don’t know about S5Es, but I tried a pair of A5s for a while, and they sounded dismal. Moved on to a pair of Kudos X2, which I still have. They are floorstanders, but they’re about as small as you’ll get, and not too fussy about positioning, so could be a good choice for a small room.

I have floorstanding Torem Hawks and a NAP100 with a Cute2 as a (now) second system in a smaller media room. That will be more than your budget, but the smaller Totems could be a good option, though the Hawks are noticeably better. Good luck.

Thanks for that. Hawks out of my price range unless I could find used.what were the smaller totems you referred to.?

The Arrow (floor standing) or Sky (bookshelf or floor standing).

If I were buying speakers I would go for used so you can afford much better quality. One pair of my previous speakers I passed on to a mate are still sounding as good as ever over 30 years later - they don't wear out!

I'm loving my used N-Sats (£350 with stands) and my used Velodyne subwoofer (£500). If I had bought those new I'd be looking at north of £4k!

Speakers seem to depreciate quite a lot, certainly much more than Naim black boxes, so if you are prepared to look for used models you should get something nice for your budget.

Alternatively, buy new from a good dealer, and for the extra price, benefit from expert advice and the chance to demo different options.

They do, rather.  I bought my S600 Ovators in Rosewood for £4500 ex dem (before Naim announced that they were discontinuing them).  They were in excellent condition, of course.

It might help people suggest things if you give the dimensions of the room.
