Nait 2 CD input sensitivity ?

Hi James, the Nait-2 with CD input has a sensitivity of 200mV,  the Tuner, Tape & Aux are unchanged at 75mV

James,  if you are trying to drive a Nait-2 with a CDP (or streamer) with a typical 2v output,  the Nait gets very loud very quickly on 75mV.   I have my own build L-Pad attenuator on mine,  I housed it in an inline box as an L-Pad with 4 resistors in such a small space as a DIN plug limits the size of resistor to 0.125w.   This meant I was not able to use the better quality resistors that tend to be 0.250w & are impossible to fit inside a DIN.   I went for 15dB attenuation,  maybe 20dB would have been better,  but it works for me.

Mike - yes. I was trying to avoid attenuated cables and found my Nait 1 works very well driven from the output of my Sony ZX2 or with my Devialet in DAC mode with it's output configured to 1v max which gives a decent range on the volume control. The new Chord Qutest with it's configurable output looks like it would make a good partner for an early Nait. I was just curious as to whether the Nait 2 addressed this as CD was become prevalent later in its lifetime, hence the question.

Yes, the phono (MM) input was ditched in favour of the CD input. 

I used a CB Nait 2 with -15dB (I believe) attenuated cables from Flachback Cables with great success.

James,  yes it did have a CD only version,  CD connects into the RCA's so phono is out.   I have the spec sheet & photo on a .pdf.  

I too tried to avoid attenuated cables as I know how they are made,   also not happy with the RCA plugin attenuators but whatever a DIN version as required for Nait-2 was not available.    But I needed something so went the DIY route - as I'm always inclined to do.   Resisters with acknowledged good sound quality that can fit 4 plus the wires inside a DIN are thin on the ground,  so I built an inline L-Pad using Welwyn RC55y (0.250w) resistors.   

 I drive the Nait-2 from my Supernait 'Record/Tape' buffered output,  via a wall into the dining room.  Switching between NDX, NAT-05 or TV (F1 commentary during Sunday lunch,  most important)    With 15dB attenuation its loud at about 9 0'clock on the dial,  diner party levels at 8 o'clock.     

I have much the same issue with my 282. 9 o’clock on the dial is LOUD and system automation volume control is pretty much unusable, so much so that I may look for an alternative solution. I guess more demanding speakers would reduce the problem.

All the separates & earlier model integrated's have 75mV input sensitivity,  whereas later models such as Supernait-2 have 130mV.         I'm not sure I agree with the automated volume control though,  my Supernait (1) & its 75mV input works well with the NDX & its 2.1v output via the iPad app control.  OK its loud enough at 9 o'clock (LED position) on the NDX,  a touch quieter on the NAT-05 (600mV) & even less on TV optical,  but the volume control is smooth & reasonably slow & I wouldn't call it unusable.    Maybe the Naim app peeps can slow it down,  maybe worth asking that question.
