Atom hdmi arc newbie help

Posted by: andycr on 29 August 2018

Hi i’m considering buying an Atom and have done a fair amount of auditioning and research but I am unclear on an important question that’s probably a deal breaker if not right.

As many here i have a harmonony remote,  partly to simplify things for family use.

understood Harmony doesn’t work with Atom but was wondering:

Q1) with an hdmi atom And with appropriate TV will the TVs remote allow me to control the atom’s volume as well as turn the atom on/off (as long as the atom’s input is on hdmi)?

If the above is true, i’m thinking then that with the harmony set up to control the tv it then effectively also controls the atom’s volume which means i can still simply this activity for family use. With the caveat that they may have to initially pit the Atom onto the hdmi input as well at the start.

Q2)

i see older posts complaining about arc not being that reliable but wondered if firmware updates have improved this or is it still hit or miss depending on your tv?

Thanks

Andy

I would insist to see it working with you brand of TV, i purchased an Atom, then Nova to use HDMI ARC to a Samsung TV, first one blew the HDMI module, everything thereafter caused an issue, so i gave up and my Nova is solely for Tidal all other inputs switched off.

I’ve found found lip sync to be wildly erratic using a Samsung TV with Atom HDMI. Occasionally it is just right, but usually it’s miles out. In practice, it’s so far out that we don’t use it.

Either the TV remote or the Atom can control TV volume but nothing else.

If you use an optical out from the TV to the Atom, you will be fine, I use my Nova this way. You may need to set the TV audio to digital out, then all your volume control is through the Atom. It will blow your TV away.

Thanks all for the feedback. Not the conclusive outcome I was hoping for, I’ll discuss further with my local dealer as recommended.
