MANA Acoustics Sound Clamp
Posted by: MNn on 30 August 2018
So have John Watson released a new product product in the Mana serie :-)
He has named it Sound Clamp.
I have just installed it with my NAC52 and will now let my Naim equipment warm up.
Richard Dane posted:james n posted:garyi posted:It looks like it digs into the sides of the hifi though?
...The ebay ad mentions the feet needing to be removed...
Surely not. The foot screws securely bolt the tray and cover together.
Yep - I suspect the screws go back in, minus the rubber feet.
Ok, so just been emailing my old mate JW.
are you ready for this...
Just one sentence from him as its personal and I don’t won’t to lose his trust.
“The effect is quite dramatic and once you've heard it there's no going back”
Its suspends the box above the board which as far as I can tell removes the mana glass, which Inturn must allow for a much easier setup. I have a pic of one of Johns racks with it setup using the mana clamps, looks good and keeps in with the mana look which I like a lot. Johns a gentleman a family man and goes out of his way to help. One of the first pioneers of audiophile rack systems that make a real difference. Respect should be given to this man. I would even be surprised if he doesn’t really what to go commercial on it. I’m sure it’s about the music and enjoying the things he love to do. But hey if a man can make a buck why not. I would.
I’ve got the link to the hi-fi critic review but can’t find the actual review as of yet. If it’s ok with Richard I’ll post it? Oh well guess you will remove it.
Paul Messenger has reviewed it in Hi-Fi critic
let me know if you find it
Critic.https://www.hificritic.com/
And another review is coming out in November’s Stereophile.
Was designed for CD players to start with. Funnily enough turns out works on everything else. Particularly well with name audio.
Hopefully my latest 'Critic mag will be waiting for me when I get home. Whilst i'm not in the market for kit like this, it's always interesting to read Paul Messengers musings.
Just had a look at the pic JW sent me. Yes it does look like the box is screwed/attached to the clamp. Maybe a stainless steel washer between. Not sure, it’s got a wee bit of stainless shine to that bit of the pic.

I notice that someone by the name (or should that be Naim? I know, groan! ) of Jason Gould picks his 'Top Ten' in the latest issue, too.
Ah.. fame at last for Jason! And well deserved too. Let me guess... any Thomas Dolby make it in?
I wrote in another thread that two here with us,have ordered these but not got them yet.
Therefore,it would have been good if MNN had told a little more detail,..because he has already installed this Mana product.
Then we would not have all these unnecessary speculations.
Maybe we can ask MNN to do it,..if we ask nicely.
For it seems that many are interested ????.
A product from Mana...John Watson is always interesting.
/Peder ????

He’s getting more made. Living in the back yard of Wales and trying to retire, slows things down. To tell you the truth I’d like to save up and jump on a plan with my wife, fly across the planet and stay at his b&b. Maybe a visit to salisbury on the way home. ???? wife wants to visit Big Ben and the palace (must be a pub around that area????)

Great stuff - I rather enjoyed his 'interesting' mix of music on the Naim visit.
garyi posted:Lets face it, it's a small piece of right angle iron with some 8mm thread holes.
So £400 then?
So while you have your finger on the pulse of the hifi market, would you care to forcast the value of used NDS's in, say, six months time when the glut has died down, Gary.
Please bear in mind, if you answer, there may be a good number of ND555 buyers who heed your reply and base their redundant NDS sales strategy on it.

His comment is unfortunately all to common. People just see the angle iron and think easy, I could make that. For god sake he made racks for pink Floyd’s recording studio. I can tell you it’s not just as simply as most think. powder coating needs heat oh but what temperature does he use.. those strips in the middle of the mana glass is for damping? no wrong again Energy sinks.
Naim balls and cups have an older name, “ ball hitters”. Oh I but I thought Naim invented them wrong again.
Anyway tall poppy syndrome. We get a lot of that crap over here. Must be from our ancestors.

Not knowing exactly at this moment, I would say that the price is a at least below GBP300.
Garyi posted sarcastically that this clamp would cost £400 ** IT DOES NOT ** I feel I have to add this post because I inadvertantly also posted that it cost this amount and now it seems now Roger has too. So before people start skimmimng through this article and seeing £400 can we please delete all posts that mention it as at the end of the day that is someones business/income and I wouldn't want to affect it in any way.
Yetizone posted:That’s an interesting and unexpected direction, if a little industrial as mentioned by James. Any more photos showing full width?
Could be a very useful product if intended to isolate just one box though. Look forward to reading more on how it performs. Phase ten to help it perform optimally!
MNN - How is the Naim olive case attached to the support?
I hope Yetizone that You can see, in the new link above, how the Sound Clamp is attached to my NAC52.
There are spikes gentle screwed in the case.
The rubber feets are removed but the screws must be in position to hold the case.

Alba1320 posted:^ Eek! What did the poor 52 do to deserve such torture?!
Haha, my thought from beginning as well
But I have demolished worse things on my way to the perfect sound...
But seriously, there are no noticeable marks on my Olive case but even if so, it's worth it
It looks like a soundframe with the 4 lugs that normally hold the glass removed, so is the nac52 sitting directly on spikes and spikes touching it's sides (s&m style).
So rather than scratches on boards or chips on glass, you damage the nac52, not good, if correct.

Adam knowing that your a rocket scientist I would never enter into a debate with you about such things.
From what I understand damping reduces vibration which rubber olive feet must do with the weights of the box. , where these strips help turn energy into heat. I’m geussing this is part of the way the rack works.
As far the price. Factoring in the performance increase is where it is priced. Just like any other hifi upgrade.
Distorting will drop, heat will be reduced, performance will be increased . What’s that worth to you?
Okay, time for first impression;
Sound Clamp on my NAC52 Olive together with six-pack NAP135CB, active DBL, NDS and LP12 etc.
SC was standing on a balanced board (wood) on top of a Reference Top on a four tier Mana.
It added a lot of energy to music in the direction of PRaT. But it did also reduced some bass in my bass eating room.
John had tried SC on different underlay which I remembered and swapped the balanced board to a glass shelf.
This was an improvement in my room, a bit harsher in top freq but it was reduced with adjusting the SC.
It is a lot of rock and roll in the system!!
Thanks John!!
When you setup the clamp did you happen to turn off you 6 pack? I find after closing down my serviced 1988 135’s even for10 mins it takes days for the bottom end to come back on song. Very strange but true. I’m am sure you know your wonderful system in and out, just asking...
