Qnap privacy loop

Posted by: David O'Higgins on 31 August 2018

I have a HS210 and a recently acquired HS-251+, and I cannot log in to either because of a data privacy notice which offers no exit. Anyone know of a fix?

Just looked on the qnap forum. They suggest trying to log in using Chrome.

I have an App on my MacBook called QFinder Pro from which I can log in to my HS 251.  Do you encounter the same problem logging in through that?

Any idea how one does that? I couldn’t find a way of choosing which browser to use to log in.

Peakman,I do not have a MacBook,  but I am trying to use Qfinder pro in the Windows world,  and am completely flummoxed.

Download and install Google Chrome browser if you don't already have it. Open Chrome and enter either the Network name of your QNAP server (e.g. QNAP1234 or however it is identified on your network - this info will be shown if you open QFinder Pro) or its I.P. address e.g. 192.168.1.xxx in the webpage address bar of Chrome.

This should then open your QNAP server's login page in your browser where you should be able to login with your normal loginid and password.

Good Luck.

Thanks SJ, but this still takes me to the data privacy notice, from which there is no escape. I’ve opened a ticket with Qnap. Incredibly frustrating!

Incidentally, if any of you are on firmware 4.3.4.0675 for the HS-251+ or 4.0.3.0644 for the HS-210, I expect that you will have the same problem if you want to login.

This happened to me awhile ago and I got the following from QNAP - it's a known issue:

Hi

Thank you for contacting QNAP.

We just released the firmware version 4.3.4.0597 build 20180528. It has been fixed the privacy notice keeps popup issue.

Please re-update manually the firmware version to the latest firmware version 4.3.4.0597 build 20180528

You can download the latest firmware version from - https://www.qnap.com/en-us/download

Please refer the link below and update the firmware by using Qfinder.

You can download the Qfinder from https://www.qnap.com/en-us/download

Can you update the firmware if you can't even get past the privacy notice thing?? It must have been a UK or EU only issue.

Looks like they fixed it, and then ‘unfixed’ it in the latest release. Bart, I don’t think you have to log in to update firmware. I’ll try to go back to the release mentioned by Pev.

I did all this Pev, and I am now on 4.3.4.0597, but I still can’t get past the privacy notice. I guess I’ll have to wait for them to reply to my ticket. Sheer frustration!

To close this off, Qnap technical support logged in to my system yesterday and sorted out access to both of my drives. It seems that I did not scroll down far enough on the second privacy screen, although I am convinced that I was in a cul de sac. Anyway, full marks to Steven Hung of Qnap for setting me back on the road.

I’m a believer!
