NDX2

Ive ordered an NDX2 and eagerly waiting for it to arrive.
I bought a Uniti Star earlier this year. Yes, wasted money I know, but not too much. I'm selling it on to someone who will cherish it cos it's a great product, sale agreed but til his flat sale goes through I've still got it. Old Arcam Solo will have to bridge any gap.
I ordered the Star last October at which point the dealer had had it on demo for a while. I received delivery at the beginning of February this year. I understand that Naim have only recently released demo NDX2s to dealers. Crikey! does that mean I'm gonna be waiting til nearly Christmas? Anyone know about the history of Naim's new product release time frames?
to run Roon you need both a Roon servrer and a Roon endpoint. Not every NAS is a Roon server! In the new platform the ND* streamer is able to run as a server (for USB attached devices) and as a Roon end point but not as a Roon Server.
ChrisSU posted:DPh posted:Roon does not work as this if you have a NAS, you can connect the external harddrive to it, and then add the external harddrive to Roon? Maybe Naim Uniti Core can be used with Roon?
Looking forward to use Roon with ny NDX2 i hopefully have soon
If you have a reasonably powerful NAS, you can run Roon on that and it will find your music stores on the NAS, and on other devices on your network, and play them on the NDX2. It’s just the USB input on the NDX2 that is not visible on your network.
Or you can use a separate computer to run Roon in the same way if your NAS cannot do it.
Yes, I just wanted to give him a way to still use his external drive
At the moment i have a computer with Roon Core, NAS with the music and Bluesound Node 2 as endpoint
Thanks everyone for your comments.
I’m going for an extended demo tomorrow.
Lindsay, looking forward to you sharing your thoughts on here about the demo.

Recived my NDX 2 yesterday, and Its awesome!
Im a bit new to Naim, because this is my first system, should the NDX 2 always be on as the 252/Supercap/250? Or can i put NDX 2 in the standby mode?
Standby turns off the main PSU, which is too power hungry to comply with new regulations regarding power consumption in standby, and keeps a small SMPS awake instead. If you want to keep it warmed up, I suspect you will not want to use standby mode, but I guess you’ll be able to assess for yourself if this is worthwhile in terms of sound quality.

Thank you! Just read the product specification:
Typical use: 19W
Network standby mode: <2W
Deep sleep: <0.5W
I assume Deep sleep is the standby, and when the NDX 2 isn't used, the network standby goes on by itself.
Yes, deep sleep means you have to turn on from the front panel button to wake it, whereas in network standby, you can wake it from the app or remote. Either way, the main PSU is off.
Chris I think that in network sleep the main (linear) power supply is in fact on.
The reason for this is that if you ask for an album to be served from the Core by upnp, the Core stays in network sleep and is not woken up. Similarly if you are playing files by upnp, the Core if awake at the start will go into network sleep according to the time delay you have set. The music playing is not affected.
I have problems with Roon on NDX 2, after listen to music from Tidal and other places than Roon for some time without any problems.
I started this morning to use Roon, after 5-6 songs NDX 2 turns to standby, has happend 3 times. After 1 minute the NDX 2, comes out of standby and everything is back as normal.(or i can wake it up myself)
Just played some album thru my QNAP NAS, Twokey, DNLA, and I played 20-30 songs now without issues.
Anyone else discovered this?

I haven’t heard of this with Roon, but it’s been an issue for some, mostly when using Chromecast. Have you tried setting auto-standby to ‘never’ ?

Thank you, auto standby to never made Roon works well.

Glad to hear that sorted it. It would be nice if Naim fixed this properly so that the standby settings can be used as intended. They are certainly aware of the issue, so hopefully it will be fixed in a future update.
Hopefully it will be!
On the NDX 2 screen, you can see the icon for Spotify, is it possible to remove this? I dont use Spotify.

I don’t think so, you can only remove inputs from the app home screen.

In the App, go to input settings and disable Spotify, it then won’t show in the App home screen, but it’s still stays on the main screen, Hopefully this will change with a future firmware update.
Is ot seriously not possible to not turn the screen off? Is there a logic to this? 16 years of being able to never look at a CDX2 screen.

I asked the chap at the Naim room at the London show on Friday if one could turn off the screen - the answer was "No"
This is a big issue for me, and prevents contemplating purchase ?!
Seems a bit odd that the screen cannot be turned off, since the screen on the equally new ND555 can be switched off.
Saying that, the facility to do so, in the absence of a meaningful printed manual, required some searching to find it, so is it possible that it's in a less obvious location within the various menus which you can access via the remote?
If not, it would certainly deter me from a purchase.
The ndx2 remote is the same as the ND555 with a display on/off button.
The ND555 remote display button refers to the buttons on the front panel you can toggle through to dim and switch the button illumination off.
Turn to the Main screen off you have to go into settings look up display and activate screen off during replay in the same menu you can also change the icon colour from green to white and vice versa.
When screen off is activated if you press the illumination button it will show the artwork of what is being played for a few seconds pressing the clock button twice will do the same.
I assume the NDX2 will be much the same.

Hopefully in the future! Naim has something great going on with this new software
Is there any ports that has to be open, to update the NDX 2 to the newest firmware? I have tried to search a little, but haven't found anything about this, I have a firewall that mostly ports is diabled
Hello again! The NDX2 has lower volum than music that has output from the 252, is it possible to adjust this? If its possible, How?
