*#@&ing Snaic
Posted by: yeti42 on 03 September 2018
Just arrived in Montpellier with turntable, Aro, London maroon and a new BNC equipped stageline N (on the second time of asking) to find I don’t have a Snaic. I knew Naim had forgotten to put one in with the stageline and meant to bring one of my spares but I forgot too, @#£&ocks.
You really must be a genuine music fanatic if you take a turntable with you on holiday. Coincidentally, I was in Montpellier (France) a week or so ago, but all I had with me was my laptop, Tidal subscription and a pair of headphones.
Checked the Naim site, there are dealers in Marguerittes, Nimes and Montpellier. Maybe give them a ring tomorrow?
I lived in Montpellier during 5 years some years ago, and can truly recommend "La Boite à musique" close to the road Rue Foch.
It's managed by an extraordinary lovely old couple in the 70 now I guess. VERY helpful and knowledgeable in music. True music lovers!
Apart from selling records they sell high end Hifi. Linn B&W etc. I'm sure they will assist if they can.
We have a flat there and I’d rather recycle my old kit into it than resell but it’s true we don’t get to visit often enough. The London Maroon is wired for mono and those are the records that will be played when I get it set up. I don’t have space for a second turntable at home.
I know the Montpellier dealer, he’s more interested in musc than hifi but carries Classe, B&W, Rega, Aurilac, but only Naim Uniti as far as I remember; he doesn’t know how to solder a Naim plug onto A5 and probably won’t have a Snaic kicking around. Nimes is a possibility.
I only took my audioquest dragonfly dac with me on holiday this year. And it is fantastic
It may cost about £25 for it to be sent from the Uk by UPS from a UK dealer and arrive within a couple of days. Given the poor state of the Pound against the Euro and the advantage of a warranty from a Uk dealer this may be better?
I've been to Montpelier. The one near the Idaho/Utah border. They spell it with one 'l'. About 2,000 folks live there and I'd bet no one has a clue as to what a SNAIC is. OTOH, you can get an amazing huckleberry milk shake there and gaze out on Bear Lake and its turquoise waters at 6,000-feet elevation.
It will wait until next visit, we only have a week this time.

That one wins on scenery I think.
