Hurray for the New Naim App
Posted by: Chris_T on 06 September 2018
I've been having a problem getting my Uniti Star discovering my NAS Wired via a Powerline setup. I've had to use Wireless which was occasionally a bit iffy. The new App is finding the wired NAS now. A big THANK YOU to the people at NAIM for this improvement.
When will 2.8 show up on Android? The Google Play Store still has 2.7
On my android phone the new version did show up on Wednesday or Thursday. You might try to really close the google shop app (or reboot the device). Maybe the app list gets updated then.

When you get the new version isn't controlled on your device, but by the Google Play store; the rollout takes 7 days to complete, as scheduled by Google.
Not finding the new version to be any better still struggles to connect to the Atom first time and its slow to show anything when it does.
Some of you guys need to say what Naim app you are using; iOS or Android. I'm using both & I do have the Android 2.8; iOS (with NDX+Synology) is pretty well faultless, the Android works in that I have not had a problem yet, but the 2.7 had some problems & TBH I gave up on it.
Not seeing the update on my iPhone X for some reason.

Do the usual -- check your app store app to see if it already updated itself.
I live in Canada, and the update just became available.I use IOS,and it says version 5.11
I have not tried it yet though.
I installed 5.11 yesterday and have used it with UPnP and Tidal without any issues. Also briefly shut down the NDX and had no issues recognizing the server and connecting on start-up. So far, so good.......
Mines on Android. Discovery has never been an issue, it just never connects to the Atom first time. It will show it I click on it but it just hangs and kicks you back so you have to do it again and when it does connect it takes 30 secs to show anything. Nothing changed in the latest version still the same.
I'm using Android 6.0 with a Mu-so. Updated to V2.8 Naim app yesterday. Is anyone having difficulty with the volume slider.
The bottom bar slider, when set to show in 'other settings' seems to work OK yet the one on the main screen does not.
It has taken a few years and maybe the extra revenue from the ND555 sales explosion to fund the development of Android 2.8 Naim App but so far so good and 2.8 finds my 272 instantly.
Popping to the caravan today and I will try my Muso QB.
I have an NDX and the volume control is via + & - buttons which work fine. Mu-so has a slider.
My other audio system is by Sonos which uses a volume slider and that works fine so I know it's not my finger or phone screen causing the problem.
Please let me know what happens with the QB.
Moderate hurray... Reported 5 months ago a bug when loading a large UPnP playlist (M3U format) from NAS, the app (both Android/iOS) duplicates the 96th entry.
Even after several mails, Naim Support still refuse to fix a stupid offset problem.

No, I don't have auto-updates enabled.
Tried a few things last night but no joy, oddly it appeared this morning.
Following my above post.
Left my house 272 working tip top with 2.8 and left app open on my Android Galaxy 8.
Arrived at caravan, phone established WiFi connection, loaded the app.
Muso appeared and selected, spinning wheel for more than 30 seconds and Muso still in standby mode. Killed application then tried again, MUSO fired up and is working.
In response to above post volume slide bar is working as it should.
See how the app performs over the weekend.
Probably the switch between different WiFi APs without closing the app caused the initial issue.

Thank you for the feedback.
I've just reinstalled the app but it's still the same. Only the bottom bar volume slider is working correctly, this slider is shown on the home screen, and the screen after an input is selected. I am calling the main screen the one that shows the album art and what's playing with the track timer bar and the slider is intermittent. On that screen My finger is not activating the white blob.
I've messaged the developers so will have to wait for their reply.
ANDROID
I have at long last managed to do the update, could not find the icon, however after a lot of messing around done it !
My main issues were :-
Put in standby mode and always had to re-boot pad - seems to be resolved - thank you Naim - made my day !
The 2nd issue does not appear to be resolved. When I scroll through in 'albums' screen, there are 5 album cover icons per row. If I happen to scroll down from the right hand side of the screen, there is a 'screen jump', then there are 6 album icons in a row, a bit annoying ?!
But very pleased main issue seems to be resolved
Well it seems the app did not fill update yesterday as I updated my os on phone today and then checked play store fon ap updates and it had one for the app even thoughti installed it last night. So updated again Did and it's improved. Not sure what went on there. As it had the new look to the device discovery bit.
I did not get an update prompt in the usual way on my iPhone. Searched for the Naim App in the App Store and the Open button changed, sluggishly, to Update.
The updated app is excellent. Finding Rooms much improved! Took a minute to find my servers again; solid after that.

After using the new version of the App for a couple of days,I think it is much faster than before.I also had a problem before the update,of seeing my Core Downloads folder on my laptop, this is now solved,I can see it every time I open up the laptop now.I decided to try transferring some new music to the Core on the laptop,it worked flawlessly.I did change the settings in the App last week from “Naim” to “Workgroup”,on the advice of the forum, not sure if that fixed the Downloads folder being visible.or the new App did it,but I am happy now.IOS
iOS on iPad
I was having a problem with the previous version where it would go to the "Finding Rooms" screen and would just hang. Installed the new 5.11 version and thought the problem went away.
It has come back in a different form. After about an hour of working perfectly, right in the middle of using the app, it exits the album I was playing and goes to screen that shows my device with a spinning star icon. It's like it lost connection somehow. I wait and wait, and nothing happens. I had to quit the app a couple of times and then it comes back. This is getting very frustrating how flaky this app seems to be.
Not significantly better on android. Fuinds my players but even worse discovering my synology than previously. Have done the usual things to restart the whole network but while every other app finds my Synology, the Naim app regularly can't seem to find it....even when it is currently playing a track off the Synology! Still rubbish....how many years now? Time to look elsewhere?
Iphone x - no + - option for volume? the slider is shaky. Other than that I don't really see much difference. Uniti Star.
Can anybody tell me how to get Albums to list by Track Number rather than alphabetically. As a musician I give considerable thought to the order of a set list so it is important for me to be able to listen to tracks in the order that the artist intended. I'm using the new app on Android. Cheers
