NAC 282 + NAP 202 with HiCap and Flatcap XS
Posted by: RustyZip on 07 September 2018
Hello.
I have at the moment a Naim NAC 282 and NAP 200 with a HiCap connected.
I also have a Flatcap XS hanging around. Can i connect that as well ? Should I ? And if so to both, how ?
Many thanks,
Russ
I can't see why you couldn't connect the second socket of 282 to the Flat cap xs or even both sockets to the Flatcap xs whether or not sounds better than the single HC I don't know.
Nice amp 282/200.
No, a single Hicap beats the Flatcap 2xs here, whether the latter is singly or doubly connected, so don't bother.
Thank you both for the info, but..............
Sorry ive got it completely wrong !! Must of been too much Rum & Cider !!
I have not got a HI-CAP at all !! , I only have a NAPSC connected to the NAC 282 & NAP 200 !! Sorry...
Im hoping to get a Hi-Cap soon, but as i have a Flatcap XS hanging around, i wondered if it would improve things - if it was at all possible ?
Cheers....
You can power the 282 from the flat cap. Just connect it as shown in the manual. If you want to use both supplies you will need a second snaic 5.
No harm in giving it a go as you've got the kit hanging around. Just need a SNAIC5 to go between the FC XS and the Upgrade 1 socket on the 282 (SNAIC4 between FC XS and 200) and you're all set.
Maybe a small improvement, maybe not worth it. Give it a try and see how you go. Just bear in mind that a Hicap is a rather different ballgame...
Looking back over my Naim years, i was never happier with my system than when I had 282/200.
I then went Hicap, 250, Supercap and then 252 until i got fed up with all the cables, dressing etc.
Don't underestimate the rightness of the 282/200.

For me, a rack with 3 full sized boxes is as much electronic stuff as I want cluttering up the room. That pretty much makes NDX/282/200 the end of the road.....at least as far as the conventional Naim upgrade ladder goes;-)

Did you try the 282 with the flatcap?

What went wrong? Surely not cablephobia?
No, not the cables alone. My system was fronted by an NDX/Unitiserve and it probably needed a power supply but most of all I just got fed up of streaming and wanted a return to a CD player/tuner and turntable.

I wonder if that will become an increasing phenomena in the future??
Time to start stock piling those cdx's to make a killing when it happens....
Thanks for all info guys.
Ive got my eye on a 2nd hand hi-cap which i might get soon - so if the flatcap will only give a slight improvement than with a NAPSC at best - then i'll just wait till i can nab a hicap.

I know how you feel - this is my 3rd Naim system ive had. Every time i just get fed up with the constant upgrading, huge box count, PSU's, cables everywhere etc - that ive got rid of them twice before, and just bought a "normal" integrated. But after a few months i miss the "naim sound" and start collecting Naim components again !!
