NDS prices

great to see the SH price of the great NDS seems to be £4995 now the 555 and NX2 are reaching dealers.
add a used 555ps at about £4500 and you have a great source for £9500 or 2 ps 555 you have a amazing source for £14000.

CDS3 are struggling to sell at £1500, but maybe that is down to CD mechanism availability, but then how long before the old Naim DAC stock dries up ...

This needs to be scotched! Mechs are available at the factory.
I'm not expecting anyone to tell me the NDS sounds better than the ND555. When I wrote 'revered as the CDS3' I meant in terms of SQ per pound spent. Alternatively, smiles per hour.
I am curious to know if some, in the very near future, will prefer the sound of the nds vs the nd555, as some preferred the cds3 vs cd555.
I doubt a little bit, but who knows. We will see soon.
And I still think the CDi was the best ????

I think much depends on your dealer and their chosen ‘business model’. Mine is constantly innovative in terms of offers particularly where a new model is involved and the trade in values I have received have always been more than acceptable. They appear not to be shy of involving Naim in what they want to do either.
They have certainly done more business with me and by association so have Naim by adopting this approach.
I guess it's a bit of a postcode lottery when it comes to dealer innovativeness (is that a real word?). When you're out in the wilds of North Wales (Camlan?) or (in my instance) Cheshire, there aren't that many dealers with whom you can strike up a good relationship, and so you pretty much have to accept what your local man or lady, is offering.
Wouldn't it be nice if there was an index of 'innovative' dealers - their willingness to negotiate a deal and their postcode. A bit like 'TrustATrader.com' but for Naim dealers. It would not surprise me if this actually exists... under lock and key, somewhere in Salisbury
PS - don't get me wrong, I'm happy with my dealer which, I suspect, is the same one that you use Camlan.
I thought the ND5XS was a very decent streamer and for the prices they go for now at auction older ones for less than £900 they are a real bargain and for someone looking to get into streaming are a great start.
It's interesting how many people stick with a local dealer when a 2 hour drive would give them access to a wide range of options. I use Tom Tom who are about 100 miles away but they are more than fair with trade ins and prices and always have a good pre loved stock. They are very good people to deal with.
If you are paying several grand it's worth the trip in my opinion, and extremely cost effective
I went CD3, CDI, CDS and then CDS2, always to this day regretted selling the CDI.

Agreed, and I must drive past several Naim dealers to my dealer of choice, who, in my experience, is prepared to think outside the box when it comes to trade-ins.
Best of all, he is quite happy to drive any new kit to me, in order to install it .......... win, win.

If the nds is better then it is still naims second best streamer and therefore may well continue to be sought after. However if the ndx2 is better then nds prices may fall quite heavily. Either way mine still sounds great.
That can only be because you have not yet heard your NDS against an ND555, Mr H. Would I be right by any chance ?
You most certainly would be right. Been trying lots of tweaks lately (cisco switch, new firmware, new nas, ethernet leads) and the old nds has never sounded better. Now, why spoil it by hearing the nd555. Ill enjoy the nds for a little longer I think.

I have heard the ND555 compared to a NDX2. I have to say that when I came home and listened to by beloved NDS, I was blown way and my jaw dropped. The NDS is sooo much better than a ND555. My wonderful NDS is going nowhere.
So there you have it, the NDS, probably the best streamer Naim will ever make.

Doubt it more than a little bit! It’s not going to happen.
You are certainly right David . Time will tell us. But nobody can be 100% sure now. For example, Simon preferred the ndx/ndac/ 555ps vs the nds/ 555ps. Maybe there will be also a minority to prefer the nds , in their system, vs the nd555?

English sarcasm. The little winking face is your clue.

Nigel, I think it’s mischieviousness rather than sarcasm.
I bought some days ago the nd555. It stayed at home a couple of days, but I was a bit disappointed. I asked the dealer for an exchange with an nds . He smiled, I didn’t understood why.
