Naim app update
Posted by: Double Diamond Dave on 08 September 2018
Hi to all
I foolishly updated my iphone se today with the latest 5.11 app update offering
Unbelievably bad ! AN IMPROVEMENT THAT DEMANDS EXPLANATION ! improved mechanism discovery ?
In my own opinion a supposed improvement appearing worse than the previous version ???
Can you elaborate further? What specifically isn’t working for you?
Does not find the device on the network, app freezes & constantly drops out
When device does appear you go back to it and it has gone
What about the rest of the system, what is the streamer, what NAS, is the network wired or wireless.
First thing I would go for is a system reboot: Switch it all off & leave the router off for 5 or more minutes: This allows the ISP to recognise that the router has gone offline. Restart the system in the following order. LAN switch (if you have one) Wireless router - let it fully complete its start process. NAS - let it complete its start process. Streamer, it should find the network automatically but may need some time or manual help with the front panel buttons. Control Device – in some cases of network discovery problems it might be beneficial to reset or even delete & re-install the app.
Opposite experience here, Dave, on iPhone 7 and 8. I would try uninstalling Naim app completely, then reinstalling it.
After that, if no joy, reboot your router and Naim equipment.
Good luck.

.......... same I suggested .... "Control Device – in some cases of network discovery problems it might be beneficial to reset or even delete & re-install the app".
Have had similar problems with both android and ios in the past. Usually uninstall re install did the trick after updating. If not, as others have said, a network reboot always worked. Rich
"Discovery" was the thing that very flaky for me with a Powerline setup before the app update. I had to use wireless which was problematical at certain times of the day. Now it's much better and I can go "wired" again.

I've been running the app in beta for several weeks, including the Release Candidate and now the release version, on an iPhone SE. It works fine for me. Anyway I agree with Mike's advice.

The issue that I have now is that whenever I have music streaming and I pull up the app on my iPad, music starts to become very choppy. The moment I go to my home screen or switch to another app, music continues to play a stream, uninterrupted. It’s very strange. This didn’t happen with the previous app. I have since restarted all network components in my network to no avail.
Totally agree with you and understand your frustration
This latest update appears very unpredictable

My system is completely hardwired i rebooted router deleted app and so on
My comments are based on my own findings but not necessarily asking for advice particularly after trying the obvious
Member JHEIDELO also appears to be experiencing problems ??
I continue to experience only improved connection times, no issues, with NDX-FM and Uniti Qute2 wired to network.
I have now upgraded the app on two iPhones and iPad — all good.
I use UPnP, Spotify, and FM regularly.
Occasionally, I have found one rogue device on my network impacts others. This is rare, but rebooting switches and all network devices has sometimes been the answer.
I get that it seemed to work better before you upgraded the app. It might help to test your phone at the Naim dealer to see if you can prove the issue is or is not isolated at the phone.
Keep us posted.

Still flaky here as well. Don’t understand how naim can say “improves discovery mechanism” when it’s even worse than previous version of the app!!!! Finds my nas 1/4 of the time
Well, I can understand it because it hardly ever worked before and now it works every time.
I removed power from my Atom and my Nova and my issue seems to have resolved itself.
Same experience. Occasional connection problems before, no discovery now. NDX, NServe, hardwired network, multiple deletions & re-installing the app. Rebooting this network is a time-consuming task with side-effects that make it not practical at the moment. Too bad. I'm disappointed.
Since I upgraded the app it's worked perfectly every time with my Star. Discovered it every time.

The music playing back "choppy" as far as I know won't have anything to do with the iPad or the Naim App; the Naim App tells your server what to send to the player, but the data does not get routed to or through the iPad (if that makes sense)!

It could be the iPad if the iPad was sending choppy instructions to the server or streamer, if you see what I mean.
But this is a very odd fault and not one we saw in beta testing, or anything like it come to that.
If it were my iPad, I would be deleting the app, doing a hard reset of the iPad and then reinstalling the app. I'm sure that would sort it.

I mentioned in a previous post that this particular issue has apparently been resolved once i completely power cycled the Nova and Atom. So far so good.
Not offered as a panacea, but I have noticed my iPhone7 is taking longer than it used to to find Wi-Fi at home after I have been away — was having trouble “finding rooms” when I noticed the phone had not found Wi-Fi yet.
