Nova Proximity Sensor
Posted by: EnglishRogue on 12 September 2018
I am the owner of a rarely used Nova. It used to change the screen details when i waved my hand in front of it. That's not happening any more. I guess the sensor is broken, but thought it worth asking here in case it is recoverable.
It's a minor problem I know, but this is the third unit I have endured following serious problems with the first two, and any new issue has just deepened my disillusionment with the stupid thing <sigh>
Talk to dealer.....the Nova is a complicated beast.....I have made some errors...not this one. But I have managed to put on full time track-random play etc. Website no real help, no manual etc. Hopefully you have a good dealer.
Have you tried disconnecting and then reconnecting the power?
To be honest I'm underwhelmed by the displays on the Uniti devices and newer streamers.
The displays are reasonable quality but they are not really utilised to any great extent and could be far more useful in practice - it's a shame promotional pre-release display features have not made it to the finalised products.
Got a Star. Some minor problems which off on usually sorts out. Otherwise great product.
Proximity sensor: wouldn't want this as where it's placed means I regularly go past it. Don't want the unit unnecessarily activating but don't think it's ever come on as I approach or even when I stand over it. Is it supposed to wake from standby? It doesn't. If that means this function isn't working as it should then I'm actually pleased. Don't see any point to this feature. There's only limited functionality available from the unit itself so what;s the point?. Need the remote which is an easy way to control the unit but full control only achieved through the app.
Agree manual is cursory

Don’t remember seeing so much “ niggles* “ in a single model...

I only recall the sensor on the Nova waking up the screen IF set not to go into auto standby, what you mention i don't recall, i can try later when home, but to be honest does anyone actually use the screen on the Uniti or New Range ?

When playing in the App I managed to hit the scissor symbol bottom left....gives random track, there is another loop like symbol bottom right, keeps album playing indefinitely. Could not find on website.....and the minor difference in backlight on the symbol was difficult to see that it had changed.
The proximity sensor should work, my original Nova used to lock sometimes but from memory doing a full power down would remedy it. It does not wake it up from standby though
The proximity sensor just changes the screen display form cover art to track info - doesn't trigger or toggle standby.
Very impressive in dems when the salesman is standing by the rack but bugger all use when you are sat on a sofa 8 feet away!
Ok checked my Nova - and i stand corrected, if when playing i wave my hand in front it changes from just the album picture, to the smaller album picture and the track progress bar.
PEV - the standby i referred to is i set auto standby to never (or did for some other run in), after 20 mins the display goes off, but coming close to the Nova wakes it up.

2hrs !!! I was thinking 20 mins was too long.
Time is configurable isn’t it.

nope, standby time is but that just dictates how long it takes to enter standby if nothing playing - as I understand it anyway. Normally it would be a case of RTFM but unfortunately we have to work it out for ourselves!
Are you guys setting standby to NEVER ?
With that setting if no music is playing the screen goes off after 20 mins, but not the buttons and Naim logo.
wow, are people still having issues with these? I had 3 faulty units and decided enough was enough and moved across to the classics.
