Naim app search not working

Posted by: David O'Higgins on 14 September 2018

All of a sudden I cannot search the music stored on my Qnap NAS (running minimserver)  from within the Naim app. There is a line under the search box which reads  ‘Search: Local Music’. I don’t recall this being there before but I can’t find a setting to change it. Any thoughts?

How do you access the search box in the Naim app, please? It’s always mildly frustrated me that there didn’t seem to be a search option, clearly I haven’t looked hard enough. (Also running Minimserver on QNAP.)

You pull the screen down and there's a search box. Unfortunately it only searches at the level the app is showing and doesn't dig down through your UpNP data. So, if I'm at the top (Minimserver) level and search for Doors, I get nothing. If I'm at the Album Artist level I get a single entry for them as artists, if I'm at the Albums level I get all my Doors albums.

It's clunky.

And very anoying to have the strange special gesture to get to the search field. However if it is that bad it is no real feature  anyway.

I use the search feature fairly often and it works OK for me

Indeed the search symbol (magnfiying glass) in the right top is misleading. It only searches on local stored music. So it has no value for the 90%(?) of users who stream their music via UPnP (from a NAS or computer). Poor choice by Naim to give a relative useless button such a prominent place.

Indeed, you can search by "pulling down" the list of items (artists, albums, songs, whatever is displayed) and type in the white box which appears. But it only searches in those items which are displayed.

So if you look for a particular song and you can't remember album or artist... tough luck. You have to first display all songs (which in my case with 24000 songs takes quite some time) before the app can find it. Point for improvement in my view.

FWIW, Roon search is lightning fast (as it's built a database of its own to search).

I just realized that we already had a revision of v5.11. How better is it then? I couldn’t see any change yet. ????

ns01 searches also works across all music. In some ways the old servers rules!

Thanks Bart. I use Roon myself, but in this instance my daughter will be using the Naim app, as she has a very poor internet connection, and anyway, she can’t afford Roon.
