Would a NAP200 improve a Uniti Star?

Hi Guys

Im asking this out of curiosity more than anything, both the Uniti Star and the NAP 200 have 70watt per channel so no difference in power, but if I took the pre amp out from the Uniti into the dedicated amp, Do you think there would be a step up in sound quality?

I guess I’m trying to find out where the Uniti is among the various other Naim ranges of separates in terms of sound quality.

Naim obviously think a 200 is a worthwhile upgrade, as it is their recommended amp for upgrading the Star. These recommendations on their website have always been pretty much on the money in the past, so I dare say they have done their homework with this suggestion. Having said that, I put a 200 on my Superuniti a while back, and although it was an improvement, I didn't think it was money well spent, and for me, it was only worthwhile as a stepping stone to a complete system upgrade.

I have the original Uniti connected up to a NAP200 and, for me, it totally transformed the sound.  The Uniti on its own was very good, but the NAP200 just gave it that extra, well, oomph!

Hope this helps

I’d like to try the same upgrade..... but is it possibile to biamp the speakers with both star and 200 or the pre-out output mute the speaker output of the star?

thank you

I had my first nap 200 connected to my supernait 1 for a while. It changed the sound to a more lean / agile signature.

I quite like the nap 200 sound.

I’m currenly watching a NAP 200 on eBay, according to the serial number it’s circa 1990, it was serviced by Naim in 2009, any idea what sort of money this is worth?

And would such an old model still be an improvement?

I have recently added a 2013 NAP 200 to my Atom and everything fell in place. Could not be more happy with the change as the NAP drives my Dynaudio speakers much better: much more authority and oomph.

I added a 250/2 to my Star and it was better.

When I sent the amp off to be DR'd I noticed it. At first. The immediate difference was it seemed brighter. But soon forgot (5-6 week upgrade in Salisbury) and  totally enjoyed the one box system.

Balls to a 200. Save up and if you're bitten by the bug buy a 250  (launchpad for possible whole system upgrade in several years). Perhaps buy the 250 used and then get it serviced. Naim charge fair rates.
