Linn Selekt DSM

Is it just me, or does the new Linn streamer range have (at the very least) a passing similarity with the Uniti range, not least the “innovative “ rotary volume control on the top of the player??

Hard to tell over YouTube either way but I think this is perhaps the first time I understood timing, as the Linn seemed to be tripping over itself on the first clip.

I thought the Nova was more cohesive, though I have one, so have to say that. I think it proves that when you have a system sound you like, you stay with that brand. I went from UC2 to Nova without trying other brands as I knew I liked the sound. May be the PRAT........

Naim Nova 5,600 €
Selekt DSM integrated 6,400 €
Selekt DSM int. Katalyst 8,200 €

Intertesting - in the UK it's

Nova £4199

Selekt DSM £5250

Selekt DSM + Katalyst £6750

Looks like your Naim distributor is a bit greedier than whoever handles Linn .  They are all more than generous mark ups!

I did another check wih the official Naim List (Sept. 2018): the Nova is € 5,900, but its street price is around 5,300 €.

Ok..Interesting listening impressions.

I listened myself several times with headphones at 04.00 today in the morning,..in other words was a little wakeful ????.
I think one hears the difference quite clearly,.. There is more sound (hifi) with Linn Selekt.

But Naim Nova has more of the musical "flow" with timing and tune.
I must listen again later today.

But hallo guys,..and ladies????,It is now 225 views since I added the video, and only 5 listening impressions.
Hope for more reviews later today.

Here a testimonial from a Swedish acquaintance from another forum...◾I thought Linn won most, but not all of the comparisons.
It appears as if Linn handles the bass much better, but at the same time the music is fragmented (what I call Digital distortion) in an annoying way.
Lots of sounds flying around.

And the Space Optimisation in the end left me cold-once again.
With less bass and even more fragmented, all I can think is "fireworks".◾

????And do not forget the question: ”Then there are several errors in the installation to make it a fair comparison.”

◾Please write here what you think I am referring to.!!

Funny how I had to turn down my computer volume for the Linn demo.
Maybe had the track been played at the same volume on each demo....

I guess that the main error is that when you change equipments you always need to reposition the speakers

It is not possible that with two different equipments (Nova and Selekt, in this case) the speakers positioning were the same

Ok, I finally had a chance to listen (Mind you, I never understand reviews or comparisons posted on uTube, as everything is then as modified by th erecording and compression process, iPad playing (in this case) and a not brilliant pair of cans).

Obviously only the briefest of comparisons, but FWIW the presentations n of the two was different - but to me no clear winner. And I”ll preface this by saying I didn’t find any of the three tracks inspiring in any way - not my kind of music. I think I preferred the Linn on 1st track - vocals clearer.  Naim on second - drums punchier, which suited the track, and I wasn’t sure on third straight, but preferred the space optimised over Linn not optimised and Naim.

as for tricks of the trade, no idea. To me the volipume levels sounded reasonsbly similar, which was the first difference I thought they might have forced, and leading the audience an ovpbvious other, as already highlighted in Peder’s first post. So, as I am a novice in presentations presented in this manner, please reveal!

I have to say that, as I watched the video, I was rather put in mind of a Samsung phone launch, in which they attempt (unconvincingly) to demonstrate their products superiority over the iPhone!
