Olive 82, Supercap, Nap 250
Posted by: Bob the Builder on 20 September 2018
In my continuing search for a second system I'm picking up the above on Sunday morning and am really looking forward to hearing what they can do.
I've actually been taken off track a little bit by the loan of a couple of mono cartridges Chris that I didn't expect to arrive until later in the week but now they're here..........
I put my stereo cartridge back on and swapped the 250 for the 180 I managed to listen to Bobby Womack - The Poet on vinyl and Carmen Gomes Inc - Carmen Sings the Blues which is a DSD download and although it isn't fully warmed up it still sounds great. I'll let it warm up over night and play some more LP's tomorrow to see what it sounds like then I do have to say though that the 82/250 is really growing on me.
I'm thinking that I might keep the 180 and buy another Hicap.

So I have had the the 82/HC/180 in for a couple of days now and it has to be said it is very, very good of course now the Supercap has gone I'm thinking what a wonderful combination the 82/SC/180 might have made. It will be a difficult choice between the two but which ever I end up with will be more than ok.
I have been really spoiled of late and have to say what a wonderful range the Olive seperates are. I suppose things were less complicated back then and Naim could concentrate all of it's wonderful talents into developing a simpler range of products.
I'm now curious to try 62/140, 90/92, 52/250 and of course a Nait 3 so that I can say I have listened to the whole range of amps at least. If circumstances led me to have choose any one of the Olive amps I have tried so far then I'd be happy because they all retain that same Olive flavour and matched with the write source and speakers are all a joy to listen to.
Hi Bob,
great to read of your olive adventures. If you ever feel the need to try a 52/135 combination, let me know. The difference between a 250 and the 135s can be surprising, especially with a more challenging load.
best regards, FT
Thank you very much FT and I may well take you up on that as I think perhaps the 52/SC is where this will all end up.
The top of the Olive range is actually attainable which is nice.
