Hi Guys
Today I swapped in my Uniti Star against a Nova, It wasn’t planned but an opportunity presented itself for a good deal, so it happened.
I liked my Star, it was my first proper venture into HiFi (apart from my Muso’s) and I enjoyed listening to it, but I always felt something was missing, sometimes it would really shine, other times it seemed to be lacking somewhat musically, I was optimistically holding out for a firmware update thinking all would be right one day, but it was always niggling me reading posts, mainly on here about how much better the Nova is.
So I handed over my Star, bashed the credit card a bit, walked away with my new Nova.
I was actually nervous about playing anything on it, the fear that I’d just shelled out a load more cash and it wouldn’t meet my expectations in the way I’d hoped.
However it didn’t disappoint, I can’t really describe in words just how much better it is, but here goes, compared to the Star, the sound is delivered with authority and ease, there’s more detail across the entire range and there’s a space between instruments that simply wasn’t there before, it’s musical to the point where my system just disappears into the room.
I must admit I never auditioned the Star, I heard an Atom, which was ok but figured for the price difference It'd be a big improvement but to be honest, sometimes I thought my Muso sounded better.
I’m never going to go to a HiFi show, simply because I don’t ever want to hear anything better that I can’t afford!!
I’ll just stay happy, Thankyou Naim for a wonderful product.

Well if it takes an ND555 to better it, then I’m not worried, and with all the other black boxes I’d need to go with that, there’s no chance anyway.
Nice one! I nearly bought a Star but went for a Nova, I’m on my third but that’s a long story! Started out with an Atom and like you with the star I found it a little inconsistent and not quite right. The Nova is more convincing and authoritative. It’ll get better and better over time so leave it running when you can, mine is coming up to 300hrs and is filling out nicely. You can rip your cds to a usb drive using dbpoweramp and plug it in the back and they’ll all appear on the server menu, renders the star a little pointless imo unless your a big cd fan, enjoy

I had a little trouble initially with the USB drive, It was the drive I was using in the Star for storing rips, so I simplified the file structure a little by deleting some of the folders, now working, Tidal now sounds so much better than before and I’m not sure I’ll use it much anymore.
Tidal was always a little muddled in the low frequency’s, sometimes boomy, but that’s gone now with the Nova, I was going to try one of those little blue fuse’s that Obsydian has in his, it’s still on the shopping list but I’ll wait a few months for the Nova to settle in first.

Cheers for the comments guys, I haven’t actually tried it on it’s original power line light yet, I’ve got a made up cable with a Rhodium coated IEC connector, a silver plated plug/fuse and two meters of Belden screened cable, the screen is earthed in the plugtop end only.
Just lazy I guess, as it was already there, I’ll swap it over to the power line light, see if there’s any noticeable difference.

I also looked at a star but thankfully bought a nova as it is well worth the additional cost.
From what I’ve listened to since you’ll have to pay considerably more money for any significant improvement in sound.
I have stopped listening to other systems in order to save my bank account and stave off madness.
