ND555 Firmware update today
Posted by: Michael on 25 September 2018
A firmware update has become available today for the ND555. It is a fully automated process, just press update on the app and it updates without a hitch.
Most notably the issue with the display buttons brightness and standby mode affecting the Naim logo has been fixed along with one or two other issues.
Michael ,all done I do like the ease of updating the Core and ND555 via the app.
Well, there's progress for you, compared to the laborious "connect your laptop and download the correct driver" malarkey that we all previously had to endure when updating the NDS.
Good shout, Michael, and many thanks.
Thank you Michael,
I will do this later so as not interfere with my listening

Isn’t it just? Much less trouble.
This must be for 'first issue' ND555s because I tried it and it says my firmware is up to date. What is the latest firmware you are showing please Michael?
Ok got it now, sorry!
So any information of what it fixes, any effect on sound quality....
Bert
When I can get the darn thing to install, I’ll let you know.
My ND 555 was ready first week of September and a FW date something like 21 August. After update this afternoon FW is dated as 18 September/3.0.1.3990. Update took a few minutes of screen refreshing. The ND 555 froze a couple of times in the first hour after the update but has been ok since.
But before and after the update I have had issues with Roon Radio. Sometimes a Roon Radio selection plays without audio output. Restarting song sometimes sorts this but sometimes a message is displayed - Transport failed to connect Roon. It can sort itself out after a while but I have had to reboot via ps once or twice.
I have had the ND 555 get itself into a tangle when it does not seem to know what it should be doing, front panel buttons cycle on/off, and nothing will play, no output can be selected. Again, a ps off/on sorts the issue.
It tells me firmware is up to date, maybe it just updated and didn’t bother asking first. System version 30.0.0.3944.
It does say in the Naim app update what is fixed. I can't remember now, but nothing of upmost significance, something to do with the logo light and a couple of other minor issues, none of which I was aware of having noted as an issue
The update is 3990 except on mine it won’t seem to update. It says it’s installing but doesn’t.
For a piece of equipment this expensive, this is not good, not good at all.
It now seems to have decided that at 3944 my firmware is up to date so I guess I will await developments!
Michael posted:Version 3.1.0.3990 sorry yes should have mentioned that in my op post.
Camlan note the first two numbers the new one is 3.1. You probably have 3.0.
My installed version is 3.0.0.3944, according to the app, and, checking on the ND555 screen, it agrees.
However, the app refuses to download any later version beginning with 3.1, saying that "Firmware is up to date",
I now can't decide whether that is an update on the original, and anyway, it doesn't correspond with the version you seem to have managed to install.
I knew it was probably too good to be true,
Harrumph!
Have just updated and now showing version 3.0.1.3990
There was a problem with connection and finding the ND555 on the network following the update so I did a factory reset.
Just checked again and it is 3.0.1 not 3.1.0 so maybe it hasn’t updated ?
Update was showing and started to download but failed to take twice, now it’s gone again. Maybe I’ll leave it a while.
You said 20k? But hopefully, the most important is sound quality.....
Reading above, I will hold off a bit, dissapointing to see that so many have issues. Has also proven to be a good approach on other platform, wait until all say it’s great and smooth.
Given that my experience seems to coincide with some others I wonder if Naim have identified a problem with this update and pulled it pending rectification. Would have been nice to have been advised if this is the case.
i am now showing 3.0.0 (3944) and firmware up to date the same as Dave M. Given that I believe that mine came from the same dealer and batch then there is at least some comfort in this! Wonder how RJS is getting on?
But honestly does I really surprise considering the amount of issues with the old streamers and Tnew uniti ones?
Naim have proved again and again what they are good at, sound reproduction, and what they are relatively poor at, software implementation.
In their defence perhaps there isn’t a beta group yet to fully test these new versions of software and ios12 is not without some bugs also. Probably doesn’t help that apparently Phil Harris has left the building along with Elvis, Roy and a few others lately.

I do apologise I mistyped ..... should be 3.0.1.3990. Sorry for the confusion.

Phil left,how...why? Blinking flip.
My ND555 is on version 3.0.0.3944 per the "About" section of the app.
When I go to the "Update" section, it says the same version, and that it's "up to date."
Mine is from the very first batch a US AD got in.

There was some idle speculation in another thread so who knows. It would be a great shame if true...
