Aluminium front panel (Supernait 2) has become purple. Who Knows Naim replacement policies ?

Posted by: Luciano Zammito on 26 September 2018

Just last month I realized that my Supernait 2   front panel has changed colour with purple extended stains. I contacted my dealer for assistance but I didn't have no answer about the problem; I searched on the forum and I realized that problably is due to a defect of anodizing process. If so , do you Know which is the Naim replacement policy for this problem ? I bought the Supernait in the 2014.

Yes I believe a Naim went thru a purple patch around 2014

Is it possible to know which kind of patch was and if it was a cost for the customer ?

I paid shipping one way to Naim USA dist.  That is all it cost me last month on a 2013 NAT.

Get pre-approval before you ship.

4 of my boxes all went purple but could not be replaced without costing a fortune in shipping. All from 2014. It seems like something in the anodising process was amiss. My NDX is purple with a non purple square patch on the left about the size of a playing card. My 282 is purple except for what looks like a liquid splash of normal facia colour around the dials.

All this happened within the first couple months of being exposed to normal (but not direct) daylight and is so pronounced now that with the green lights and purple fascia, it looks like the hi-fi built by The Joker.

Given that even under warranty, the return shipping back to Naim for changing this would set me back a few $K (no Naim presence in my country), I decided to live with it. Naim have almost no resale value in my country anyway so it really isn't devaluing the units more than they already have been.

Naim should pay all cost surely

If you bought it new, then surely the 5 year warranty is applicable as a 2014 purchase is only 4 yrs old. Should be fixed FOC

Naim are very good about costs, especially where the dealer handles the RMA and the unit is picked up from the dealers.

But if you ship to them direct or intentionally brought your unit back to a country with no Naim presence whatsoever (as I did), then expecting them to pick up that tab smacks of entitlement.

If the OP has a decent dealer, they will eventually get a response and handling any RMA through the dealer is the way to go.

We need to be realistic too. The problem doesn't affect sound quality. It's a cosmetic issue. I would recommend simply pressing the dealer for a response from Naim to see what they offer to make the customer happy. Ultimately, even if they can fix it, whether the OP wants to be without the unit for X weeks while it goes into the queue with the other RMAs is another matter.

Give Naim and the dealer a chance for a proposal.

Thanks for answers.

I realized that Naim has recognized a defect of anodising process and the replacement  costs of the front panel are not charged to the customer (the cost of a new front panel and the man power cost for replacement)  for the  5 years old equipment . The customer will pay just the shipping cost . Now , I have to talk with my dealer .

I'm surprised Naim couldn't just send new panels - they can't be difficult to fit, IWHT.

I'm not surprised they don't...

They can be a little sensitive about sanctioning customers dismantling electrical equipment...

Luciano, your dealer should get in touch with the distributor.  It sounds like the anodising of the front panel has a problem.  Naim should be able to provide the distributor with a new panel.

Thanks Richard ; I'll get in touch my dealer and I'll tell him and , eventually ,  refer to our topic.
