Beresford TC-7210 switch.

Posted by: PenangNaim on 26 September 2018

I have a Pioneer SC-LX73 A/V amp driving a 5 speaker set up, and a Linn LP12/Naim 282/250 hifi set up.

Does anyone have experience of using a Beresford TC-7210 switch between the two systems.

Thank you.

What are you wanting to achieve ?

I want to use my A/V 5:1 for films, and the hifi , at separate times of course, using just the one pair of speakers. Space being a problem.

Google seemed to suggest that the Beresford was a good solution, so I have come to the experts.

Could you combine the two systems so you can enjoy music and movies. Feed the front pre-out signal from the Pioneer AV receiver to the 282 and set the 282 to unity gain. The Pioneer handles the centre and surrounds and the main hi-fi the front L&R channels.

Should be neater and better quality than using a speaker switch box.

Sounds like a good idea, one google didn't come up with!

I need some hand holding as this is my first major upgrade from 32.5/140 in 26 years.

"Feed the front pre-out signal from the Pioneer AV receiver to the 282 and set the 282 to unity gain.", please explain a little more if you have time.

Thank you.

Ah ok. The Unity gain function allows you to effectively disable the volume control on the 282 and use the volume control of the device connected to the AV input, in this case the Pioneer AV receiver, to control the volume of the whole system including the 282/250. In Naim speak this is the AV bypass function and you'd use this when you'd want to watch a film.

Have a read of the manual here https://www.naimaudio.com/site...ish%20Issue%201i.pdf

See section 14.2 AV Bypass on how to configure the 282 into this mode.

You'll also need a 2x RCA to 5 PIN DIN input cable to connect the Pioneer to the 282.

Hope that helps. There's plenty of people to help you on here if you get stuck

Many thanks for that. I have Radar round the corner so getting cables are no problem.
