Connecting a non naim headphone amp on SN2

Posted by: Fourteen on 01 October 2018

Hello, i want to connect a non naim headphone amp (bryston) to my supernait 2. The SN2 is powered with a hicap dr. All digital sources are connected to my NDX  which is connected with a din highline to the cd input of the SN2. The only other input used on the SN2 is the RCA HDD for my phononamp. What is the best way to make the connection ? Thanks !

You will need to use the HDD IN/OUT on DIN.  You'll need to take signal from the OUT pins, that feeds a rec out line level signal to your headphone amp.  It may well require a custom interconnect.

Thank you Richard ,

if i use the HDD out on DIN, i understand that i will hear the sound  coming from the HDD RCA input ( phonompreamp) but will i also be able to hear the sound coming from the CD input (NDX) on the headphone amp ? Can i use the AV DIN OUT instead and hear both signal coming from either CD or HDD inputs ? Regarding the sound coming from speakers , how to mute it ?...sorry for all these questions , but i do not understand the basics of av and hdd outputs. I want to be sure to understand correctly before investing in a headphone amp. Regards !

From what I can make out whatever signal is playing via an input will be output via the Rec out pins of HDD and maybe also AV.  Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a proper tape section on the SN2 and I've never had any hands on with it so can't say for absolutely sure.  I'll have to dig out the manual online and read through to see whether Mute operates just on the speaker outputs or also on the Rec out.

I know the cable I used via my previous nait xs into a rega ear mkii was a chord crimson vee3 din to rca.....the din side connected to the amp and only two of the rca inputs are connected to the hp amp out of 4 with the other two cable tied....although my xs was the original with tape loop.

I have an SN2 connected to the BHA using the HDD connection. The SN2 will output the signal to the BHA regardless the state of the volume control or the mute button. DIN to RCA into the BHA.

Excellent, thank you Hearingaid for confirming.

So, Fourteen, you'll need either a Tape interconnect (DIN5-4 x RCA Phono - see FAQ for picture and details) or a DIN5 to 2 x RCA phono where the DIN is wired to take signal from the rec out pins.
