problem with Naim Uniti Nova and spotify

Posted by: Emmanuel Methivier on 09 October 2018

Hello.

My Uniti Nova is in version 2.6.1.9794.

There is no update with the software menu.

But for 2 days, I can't connect with Spotify Connect protocol.

Any idea?

Thanks.

Here in Hong Kong same situation. Spotify can’t connect to Nova in last few days. Hope that the fix will be rolled out in HK soon

Nothing. Spotify connect works fine on every other device bar the one I paid thousands for, to actually use spotify with.

We appreciate the frustration this is causing as we attempt to resolve the issue with Spotify, and again apologise for the inconvenience.

To reiterate, you can continue to play Spotify content through your product using Chromecast, Airplay or Bluetooth.  It is only Spotify Connect that is not working at this time for some users, on current Uniti and Network Players.

We continue to work with Spotify to resolve the changes that have been made to the Spotify Connect service to get this working again, and will continue to update here as we learn more.

----

In the Spotify app, select More Devices in the speaker list to send the audio via Airplay (iOS only) or Bluetooth.

To use Chromecast, you must have this enabled correctly on your product.  Go to Settings > Input Settings > Chromecast in the Naim app and ensure it is enabled.  If not, simply check the box and follow the on screen instructions.  Or, you can run through the Setup Wizard again from the Rooms screen of the Naim app.

Then in the Spotify app you can switch how the audio stream is sent to the product by tapping the three dots '...' next to the speaker name.  Choose Google Cast (another name for Chromecast) and then select that speaker.  After a few seconds the audio will be transferred to the product.

Not for me I’m afraid. I have no AirPlay either on Unity, Mu-So, or QBs.

This is no solution for users like myself who don't use smartphones, but use the spotify desktop app to stream via connect.

any luck, people? i guess we can assume that software update on the Spotify side did not fix the problem?

For whatever reason I now have no access using Chromecast on my Uniti Nova. It was working perfectly as an alternative to Spotify connect.I've done all the usual and rebooted everything from the internet source all the way to the Uniti. Changed devices. Nothing. As a one week owner, its disappointing to say the least.

I now have all my Naim devices back on Spotify Connect AND on Airplay too.

Hooray!

Can I ask what part of the world you live? My system is showing no change.

I’m in the uk. Spotify Connect back on original Uniti, a Mu-So and 2 QBs. Airplay back too, but can’t imagine how that was related, but seemed to be.

well, still not working for me. I think that makes it almost a week now without Spotify Connect. and no idea of when it will work again, if ever.

I can’t get Spotify to work on Chromecast. Although my Nova will not play Spotify my Mu-so still plays it.

My Nova is a replacement unit last week. My old unit played Spotify ok up to replacement.

With my Atom Unity is still not working (Italy here). Honestly I can't get how can happen. Naim dev team should test in advance in a sand-box any change in third-part protocols and be ready to update their firmwares in time. We are not talking about a cheap chinese gadget ... I'm very disappointed.

Can somebody from Naim IT please provide a graphic of the Spotify screen indicating what actions to take using an iPad.

Xaltro, it looks as though Naim have changed nothing here, but Spotify may well have done so and unwittingly caused an issue.  Right now Naim are trying to get details on what has happened and how to fix. See the above link for alternative ways to access Spotify in the meantime.

I'm not in your team so please forgive me but i can use my imagination and logic only. I use lots of different devices "spotify connect" enabled including famous brands and also some chinese gadgets. Naim steaming at the moment is the not working only one.

There are no public informations signed by Spotify about any kind of changes in the protocols neither in the tech blogs. I can only guess that something went wrong on the communications layer between spotify connect protocols and Naim implementations. Anyway i hope to see it solved very soon.

And for the records Chromecast solution is not equivalent to the "spotify connect" protocol because quality (160 kbit) and performances aren't  the same.

Hi Richard...re your above reply..it takes me to a page which tells me I don’t have permission to view the content !...don’t know if it’s just me ?

Posted on: 15 October 2018 by SI1959

I don't have permission either to view the page.

Posted on: 15 October 2018 by Richard Dane

OK, just checked and the link doesn't work because the original was posted in a restricted room only accessible to Naim.  I'l post the copy here for you all;

We are aware of the issue users are currently experiencing when trying to use Spotify Connect with a number of our streamers.

We are working with Spotify to find a resolution and can confirm that the issue isn’t anything to do with any Naim updates.

In the meantime we recommend streaming using Spotify via either Google Cast, Airplay or Bluetooth and you can find instructions how to do so below:

Airplay/Bluetooth: In the Spotify app, select more devices in the speaker list to send the audio via Airplay (iOS only) or Bluetooth.

Chromecast: To use Chromecast, you must have this enabled correctly on your product.

We will update social media channels and the Naim Forum with more information as soon as we have an update.

Please be assured we are doing everything we can to resolve and hope to bring you a resolution as soon as possible, in the meantime please bear with us and try alternative methods of connection. If your still struggling to connect with the alternative methods please contact our support team at support@naimaudio.com and they will be able to assist you further.

Thank you for your patience.
