Does the Atom update its firmware automatically?

Posted by: dave-mac on 10 October 2018

Since firmware updates severely degrade the sound (IMO) and now completely break spotify, I steer well clear until I hear other peoples experience with them. So, when my atom stopped connecting to spotify yesterday, I checked the app to make sure nothing funny had gone on with the firmware, and sure enough, it's apparently up to date. What's going on there, I havent updated in months? Does the atom automatically download new firmware? Can I disable it?

I've just about had it up to here with this expensive box of junk.

I don't think there has been an Atom FW update, there hasn't been one on my Nova. The issue seemed to come with the app, not the streamer.

We don't automatically download new firmware to our products, and there has not been a new firmware recently for the Atom.

The issue with Spotify relates to their Spotify Connect protocol and we are working with them to determine a root cause.  This operates independently of the app, so the recent release of the app is entirely a coincidence and not the cause.

We apologise for the inconvenience here, but rest assured we are treating it with our highest priority.

I'm very glad about this, and hope the situation will not change in the future.

It would be nice if older firmware versions were available for download too for the Uniti and newer streamers - while I appreciate that certain things may not be supported on older firmware, there may be instances where users prefer either the sound or particular feature which could change.
