Issue with REL G2 Subwoofer
Posted by: Eu Jin on 11 October 2018
Hi everyone not sure if anyone can help me with this issue i'm having with connecting my Naim system to a REL G2.
I'm currently a proud owner of the following active Naim System:
NAC252
Supercap DR
2 X NAP 200
CDS3
XPS2
NDAC
SNAXO 242
HiCap
Allae
I have been using REL subwoofers as a complement to my system above for years and I have always connected the REL's using the Speakon High Level cables to the back of my Allae Speakers ( red to the Right + speaker terminal, black to the Right - speaker terminal and yellow to the left + speaker terminal) and the other end to the high level input of the REL subwoofer.
I first had a REL Storm, REL B1 and I have recently got my REL G2 delivered. For some reason when I tried connecting my REL G2 the same way I have connected the REL B1, a loud repeating signal type sound automatically played itself on my speakers (even when the volume knob was set to the lowest) to which immediately turn off my power amps. I then disconnected the REL G2 and reconnected the REL B1 and the issue went away. I then disconnected REL B1 and connected the REL G2 and the same issue occurred again. I have since then connected the REL B1 back again however I have also then realised that my left tweeter on my Allae is now busted.
Can you please advise how can I resolve this issue as I do not want my new subwoofer to go to waste. The only thing I can think of is that my previous REL Storm and REL B1 had both a unbalanced and balanced High Level input while my new REL G2 only has one high level input and it does not say if it's balanced or unbalanced if it actually matters.
The Naim forums strongly advise against connecting the REL Speakon High level neutrik cables to the back of the Naim Amps and I definitely do not want to risk damaging anything further.
Any help or advise on how to resolve this issue is very much appreciated.
