Suggestions for future enhancements for the new Uniti series

Posted by: alpha10 on 17 October 2018

I really like my Uniti Star, but I have a few suggestions that should be implemented, you are welcome to post your own

1. Ability to set the display off (I don't need to see the screen at all when watching TV for example)
2. Ability to rip selected songs of a CD.
3. Ability to configure my Apple TV remote to the Uniti (it worked on the old Uniti, but not with the Star)

I will post some more later...

Re. your last point, the Unitis use a remote that runs over a Zigbee wireless system rather than the traditional IR, so unless Apple start using Zigbee remotes, they are not compatible.

Yeah, I was thinking that too, what a pity, oh well..,

And suggestion 1 has been requested many times, so we can hope it's in the plan. I haven't seen No 2 requested before though. Naim don't necessarily read posts in the forum so the way to make sure it is read is to put it in again via the feedback option in the app.

best

When I have posted all my suggestions, I will post it again via the feedback option in the app.

At a NDX2 launch, I was told 1 is coming. Other than that, including an app interface with the forum would be cool.

5.1 capabilities, available via plugin cards as well as a possibility to put my 322 / 323 cards in.

how about the ability to turn off the power amp if you want to add a naim power?

Bring back SPDIF output to the Unitis!

Ok, number 3 doesn't matter, I connected an additonal HDMI cabel via ARC into my Naim, that way I can now control the volume using my Apple TV remote, works perfectly and the sound is great

Right now number 1 is first on my wishlist, the display should be able to turn off completely.

Thanks for reading...

Indeed, I wonder how long it will take for Naim to come up with a possibility to turn off the display ...

Posted on: 18 October 2018 by alpha10

I have asked about this, the support team will forward my request, we'll see

For the love of all that is holy, please NAIM implement a lights out function.

The requests have been coming for over a year and still nothing, it was present in the last series but inexplicably did not make the cut for the current series. All NAIM support emails are met with "possibly coming in a future update if there is demand"

switching the display off, but also the option to have the clock on and in standby as well maybe.

more power in future models

Even on my mu-so Qb you have the ability to adjust the brightness of the lights ...

oh and on the Qb, I can change the sorting/ order of the iradio presets, this would be ideal if we can have this on the Uniti's as well ...

Posted on: 18 October 2018 by alpha10

Yes, the brightness can be adjusted, but not turned off, but the display can't be controlled at all, not the brightness and it can't be switched off, I'm planning on having something to cover the display until it get fixed, but it shouldn't be necessary on equipment this expensive, even my 200 Euro Pioneer Bluray can turn the screen off.

I agree with you Alpha10!

We discussed it before, for example here: https://forums.naimaudio.com/topic/uniti-whishlist

The display should be much more customisable, including the option to switch off.

I use Control4 as a remote control.  Only very recently has a 3rd party made an app that will work my Atom, but it was free and works flawlessly.  Don't know if there's a solution for Harmony and the like.

It would be nice to have support for the Bandcamp app (preferably this should be available without having to use the app) but on top of my list is the ability to play music from a NAS or attached USB drive without the need to use the app

You should be able to use Bandcamp via Airplay or Chromecast on the new streamers.

I don't have any Apple device nor a Chromecast. I'd prefer to have native support (similar to Tidal) but would consider a Chromecast. What is the sound quality like with Chromecast?

Posted on: 23 October 2018 by ChrisSU

I was referring to the new generation of Naim streamers which have Chromecast and Airplay support built in. You should be able to use this function from the device that runs the Bandcamp app.

How about a new power amp that matches the aesthetic design of the Uniti? Could they shoehorn a nac250 dr in such a unit?

That would be great indeed!
