NAC152 - full volume from "line out" - HELP !

Posted by: JanÅ on 20 October 2018

Trying an active speaker, but the phono outputs (the RCA sockets marked  with "line out") from the 152XS leaving full volume signal.

Having a FlatcapXS with 2*snaic connected powering the pre - can't you do that if you use the "line out" from 152?

How should I do to be able to control the volume?    Read in the manual about "AV bypass". Can it be related?

Appreciate some guidance

The manual says:

The line level output simply reflects the selected input signal while the subwoofer output is a duplicate of the main preamplifier output (i.e it is affected by the preamplifier volume control).

You could use the subwoofer output or the signal out A on your flat cap since you are apparently using the upgrade 2 socket.

Thanks a million!

What output is of best sound quality?    The "Sub output" on the Pre, or the Flatcap output?

The flatcap output, go as close to the input as you can. I have a pair of DIN to single RCA channel cables made by Naim that do the job (which I’m keeping so this is just for information) but I think you can get a DIN to two RCAs as well. Not all Naim dealers are aware of the available cables so make them ring Naim if they deny such can be had.

From the FlatcapXS, is it one or two DIN-cables?

(my active speakers can take XLR-plugs)

While I would favour talking signal from the flatcap, you may find that the Sub out is better able to drive long cables like you would use with active speakers. You may wish to ask Naim about this. Also ensure any cabling is low capacitance.

So why is it better to use the signal from FlatCap?

The shortest way for the signal is "sub out", is it not?

The flatcap forms the absolute reference for the system earth.  That's why it's theoretically preferred. However, the sub out may be better able to drive long cables, so...
