Ready NAS Duo to Synology DS218J 8TB (i.e. 4+4)

Posted by: ken c on 21 October 2018

decided to get a new NAS drive for my music library and then I can use the ReadyNAS as a NAS for other data.

I currently use UnitiServe/SSD to rip and to serve. I don't really want to change that right now.

could you guys point me to a set of instructions on how to safely move my music files from ReadyNAS to the new Synology.

many thanks

I have recently upgraded to a Asustor NAS.  I don't remember the Duo, but I have a a ReadyNas RN102.  The backup utility in it is very robust.  It was as simple as creating the shares on the new NAS and generating a one time backup from the ReadyNas Shares to the new Shares on the Asustor (in your case Synology).  The ReadyNas has a way to do this simply using the filename/timestamp method.

After it was done I reversed the backup jobs and use my ReadyNAS to backup the Asustor.

as I recall, my RedyNASbacks up to a USB connected storage device. I will double check if the Synology can be connected this way to it.

To those who have done this before,  is there a direct way of copying music files from the ReadyNAS to the Synology shares?

I just connected both my Readynas & Synology 216 to a separate router and simply copied the music folder from the Readynas and now when import a CD to my PC I just send a copy to both NAS drives.. Simples ????????
