Naim App for windows 10 on a surface
Posted by: John Byrne on 29 October 2018
Can I add my vote for having a NAIM app for Windows 10 surface?
Nope, not till there's one for a Mac, lol.
Use Bluestacks on the Windows 10 surface pro to run the android app, works well.
Thanks Peter, I've installed Bluestacks and android naim app but I can't get it to find my naim devices.
I also tried on two different PC's and had the same problem that the emulator and the Naim app load fine but it cant find any rooms . Anyone have any insight or advice please id really like to get this working if I can
Thanks in advance
The only thing that I can think is that you need to be connected to your home network and switch off any other devices i.e phones. It should then work like the app on any android device. I have the Naim app and Bluesound apps working.
Ah! Bluesound is different from Bluestacks?
I understand now, looking at your picture. I've tried again and not been able to find rooms. All other devices off. Looks like there's a fundamental problem that nobody knows how to fix.

Well assuming network connectivity, it would suggest the implementation of multicast group addresses is not working or designed correctly on the emulator.
It is probably because Bluestacks gives itself an IP address outside your home network. I could not get the App to find my Atom either. I switched to another emulator called Nox Player. Nox is a much more configurable Android version. To get it to ‘work’ I had to go into the Nox System settings, the wee cockwheel. Then in the Property settings tab I had to enable ‘Network Bridge connection’. It installed a driver after that and restarted Nox. Then go back to this Property settings tab and go into the Bridge settings and give Nox a Static IP address in the same group as your home network. For instance in my case my laptop was assigned 192.168.1.60 so I gave Nox 192.168.1.61. Enter your Gateway, Subnet Mask and DNS1 & DNS2 and restart Nox.
After that it worked fine. It finds the Atom and Minimserver okay.
If you do n't have success with Nox or Bluestacks there are also Andyroid, Youwave, Droid4x, android emulators. I find Bluestacks loads faster than Nox and is more responsive to key strokes with an attched keyboard. I guess it's which ever is your preference.
Is there any good UPnP app for Windows? Might be an easier way than emulating Android. But I didn't find one so far - BubbleUPnP & Co don't seem to exist for Windows. But maybe someone here knows one?

In short not that I know of. The only work round I have for that, is to use window media player or foobar 2000 or similar Point it at you nas library and cast it to your player. Sounds quality is very good. You'll need to enable media streaming in Windows 10.

Linn Kazoo works in Windows 10 and can control Naim gear as well as Qobuz, Tidal, via BubbleUPnP server. It’s in the Windows App Store thingy.
I would n't recommend Kazoo for windows its very buggy but its always worth a try it may work for you. It never finds Asset for me.
I tried Kazoo after Bluestacks wouldn't find my rooms but it looked like Kazoo only expects Linn products. How do I tell it to find my naim rooms?
tried again and can't get Kazoo to find any naim streamers
Thanks Peter and Nick!

Kazoo (both Windows and iOS versions) finds my NDX because it's working off BubbleUpNP Server on my Synology that treats the NDX as an Openhome front end. I use it for Qobuz access otherwise I use the Naim app alongside it.
Another benefit of my migration to Roon is that they have an OS X app and I can control from laptop or phone or iPad...and unlike the Naim app Roon is happy to have multiple app instances connected at once - you can have music wars with your spouse and friends!
You could try Linn Kinsky. I've occassionally used on my Mac and it controlled my Naim equipment, but it certainly wasn't perfect.
PG, How did you manage to get Kinsky to detect your Naim equipment?

Lin Kazoo for Windows is absolutely bullet-proof with my Linn Klimax streamer (and minimserver on my Synology NAS), but doesn't find my Naim Muso Qb.
Two more you could try are: dBPoweramp 'Asset control' and Audionet 'Remote control point'. Audionet RCP comes as desktop apps for Windows and Mac. For iphone and android they are called iMM and aMM.
Good luck

Asset control is good but they are nolonger actively developing it, pitty Naim could n't take it on. I find Audionet RCP sometimes fails to find tracks or reports errors.
Yep I agree Peter, nothing beats the NAIM App running on an Android emulator.
