Found this and had to share....

If someone wants to add the actual pic to a post please do..

Yep, seen the shaker, shaking its booty on a couple of factory visits. it has a wonderful ability to de-stress all who observe it doing its thang.

It's an very old technique, historically effectively used to conserve fish for the winterperiod.

Doesn't it make you so proud of British engineering at its finest.

Thing is, it works!

Thanks Richard

Yes it is a thing of beauty...

A trip to the factory is well worthwhile if you’ve not been already. The attention to detail, as well as the commitment from staff at all levels is truly impressive.

Oh yes the Snaic Shaker is quite a hit.. I like this picture of Jason attending to some settings in his white lab coat...

That doesn’t look like the Jason I know.

It looks like Mark Raggett (and what looks like Tony M in a blue coat behind him...)

1000 apologies it is indeed Mark...

Once a SNAIC have been shaken by the snaic shaker, is it OK for life time or should it endure that torture once in a while thereafter

Posted on: 30 October 2018 by nigelb

Being a qualified production engineer (got a degree from Brunel an’ all), I just love the ingenuity and problem-solving ethic that gave us the snaic shaker.

Problem: Newly manufactured snaics are full of stress, which adversely affects SQ. A lengthy shake at either end relives those stresses, but we can’t afford to have technicians shaking cables all day, and there is no way they could tell their partners what they have been doing at work!

Solution: A mechanical shaker that automates the stress-relieving task. So the snaic shaker was conceived and built. Brilliant!

Well, the SNAIC shaker goes a little bit against George Cardas theory on cable break-in but I guess that once the SNAIC is installed it shouldn't be moved or touched anymore...

I too love the problem solving bit,  & it is something to behold when running & I thought it would be better run to music,  something Hawaiian maybe.   Problem is with my 'leky engineering skoolin'  I do watch it with a bit of a smile.

An early prototype that could treat one snaic at a time was quickly abandoned. Correct orientation of the DIN plug was troublesome (2:08 into the video).

How cruel to make a Snaic re-live its stress.

You should shake each Snaic, in turn, every six months or so when you clean the contacts. Be careful to align your Snaic with Salisbury so that the correct azimuth (with reference to the earth's magnetic field) is maintained. I use a compass and a 1:25000 OS map for a more precise arc of travel end to end.

I have my own SNAIC shaker. All I have to do is sew it up into a fuzzy cover and present it to my rottie as a new doggy toy. She will snap its neck violently over and over until it's dead, and then some more just to be sure. Perfect.

But that wouldn't alitterate, either someone is using artistic licence or there's another bar with 270° sockets. Are Burndies "relaxed" at the factory too or is that left up to the installer? There apperared to be less tension in the ones that came back with my 500 after DRing  and a service, I think they were the same Burndys though I got new boxes.

You have to relax your own Burndy cables. Jason did show me at the factory, but I'm sure there's an art to it. It can be a real challenge to get them adequately relaxed so that the wide key is uppermost at both ends.

I blow smoke over them until they are completely relaxed....

Empty sockets surely ? So you can shake any SNAIC ????

The bit I like about the Snaic Shaker was the benefit of de stressing the cables was found by accident by Naim, and I seem to remember still not fully understood why... but Naim introduced a stage into their production process to replicate anyway.. simply because it sounded better. If I also remember correctly there was no perceived benefit above 80 shakes.. but my memory might not be reliable here... just like with remembering Mark...

The whole folklore / magic thing is what makes the Naim world so worthwhile being part of . How boring life would be without these insights and quirks.

Absolutely.

I love bonkers stuff, particularly when it actually works!
