HDX...starting

Posted by: nocker on 01 November 2018

came to use the HDX tonight And it will not get past the starting screen.

Many ideas? I have switched off and taken Ethernet cable out a couple of times.

If its a rust spinner stick yer ear up to it, if its clicking and going, then its off to naim.

No clicking! What do you mean in the answer?

Rust spinner means (I think!) HDD rather than SSD.

If you have a spare computer VGA display screen you can plug it into the back and see where it is hanging in the start up process but probably this is going to be: take it back to your dealer and depending how competent they are and what is wrong with it, they will either fix it themselves or send it back to Naim for them to fix.

Probably a duff boot sector or a dead CMOS battery. Or both. Been there.

It never hurts to disconnect it from the mans and leave it standing for 24 hours. They can sometimes come back.

This once happened to my HDX, self inflicted on my part, as the result of a previous incorrect shutdown.

It sounds as if, since you are stuck on the "Starting, please wait" screen, you won't be able to shut the HDX down, other than by using the power switch on the rear of the unit.

My local dealer was able to restore the operating system and change out the CMOS battery at the same time.

It once happened to my HDX after I'd requested it to rebuild the database. What I didn't realise is that could take a couple of days.

I suggest you leave it running for at least 24 hours to see if it resolves itself.

If you have access to a computer screen which can be plugged into it, it should show more clearly what is actually happening. Otherwise, it's time to visit your dealer to look at it.

I had the same/similar issue a while back on my UServe...'starting' was permanently on..

Stick a VGA monitor and mouse on it..it should show you a message..

mine was 'Disc Boot Failure', and needed a Bios reset....yr Dealer will prob have a Technical Notification on how to do this...(I did it myself at the time..).

If its not a Disc Boot failure message, then may be best to contact Naim...

Plugged in monitor it says system is shutting down in 58 seconds & will then restart. Obviously it doesn’t. There is a status code 1073741819.

Any ideas please?

I'd call your dealer or Naim support to ask them. It might be something they can diagnose and fix over the phone.

Take it to your dealer ...

Thank you, I have emailed the fault to Naim support.
