Quote;

3.0.2 - Network Players Patch Release Fixes

Fixed: Multiroom audio not working when sending from original Uniti/Streamers and Mu-so to new Streamers (ND5 XS 2)
Improved: Responsiveness of external preamp volume control when using system automation (ND 555, NDX 2)
Fixed: ND555 buttons and Logo sometimes at wrong brightness when leaving standby (ND 555)
Fixed: Now playing bitrate not populated on internet radio input (ND 555, NDX 2)
Fixed: Occasional failure to mount some USB drives (ND 555, NDX 2)

Here’s the after upgrade photo with all logos at the same brightness;

Same result on NDX2. Update was flawless. Nice one Naim.

Yup, that worked fine, although I kept thinking it was stuck in some update loop as the white line must have tracked across the screen half a dozen times before it was complete and my iPad was saying streamer not found. My first update for the ND555. It was A LOT less hassle than was the case with the NDS. Great job. I'll be able to switch it to standby now without worrying about the brightness of the buttons first. I'm still wondering why I need to switch to standby though.

Killed everything for five mins so far... still waiting.

I'm in an 'update-loop' and it has now done it three times - normal?

Posted on: 07 November 2018 by Crispy

Took about 10 mins for me and looped a few times.

After all that hard work, Clive, with you assisting me in getting my Naim logo lit, along they come with the firmware update which addresses the problem............... better late than never, I suppose .............(no pleasing some people, is there?).

On a cheerier note though, as you've mentioned, we seem to have entered the 21st. Century, with updates over t' interweb, direct to the streamer, certainly a lot less bother than the old "connect your laptop to the streamer, and download the appropriate driver" malarkey we used to have with the NDS.

So, yes, I'm a happy bunny with a fully glowing logo, and yes, what a piece of kit the ND 555 is ............... well done Naim.

Posted on: 07 November 2018 by Darke Bear

...ok - seems to have worked. It re-started the App and I re-registered and it all worked again.

Logo now same illumination all I notice so far.

It is good, isn't it!

I was talking to my Naim dealer yesterday and went into some detail describing the process I described to you so that he'd be able to advise other customers if they wanted to sort out their logo brightness issues. If only I'd waited a couple of days. Oh well, back to the music.

Re-registered? I didn't have to re-register anything, nor restart the app. Do you mean you had to relocate the streamer through the app? In my case it carried on quite seamlessly

I use a wired connection - the ND555 re-boots with the update - the IOS App loses the 'Room' connection and then (due to design flaw) presumes that you must only connect via WiFi and the only way past the block-screen (which should not be there and was not in the previous App version) is to press the top LH plus image and re-register the product.

I've had to do this every day since owning the ND555 and it is a pain and I've done it scores of times - need a new App with that feature removed so that you can use a wired connection. It works wired fine - and IMO better, but the 'WiFi block screen' needs to go.

Or, you could just use wi fi like everyone else. To change this feature for probably one user in thousands is perhaps too much to ask.

Posted on: 07 November 2018 by Darke Bear

I'm not using WiFi - I hear in my system what that does and prefer wired.

The blocking screen serves no purpose and should just go - it was not there in the previous App versions and it worked fine wired - why would Naim want to deliberately annoy customers with a feature that serves no purpose?

I don't need a black screen telling me that I've decide to use the Naim App in a valid way and forcing me to re-register every time. Just remove it in the next update.

Mind you, even with the ND 555 front buttons on full dim, there’s still a faint “bleed through” in my otherwise darkened music room, and which isn’t there on any of the other boxes, ..........wait, none of them have illuminated buttons!

Will  you please stop moaning Dave, and just enjoy the bloody music!

I've noticed that too, now you mention it. Is that new since version 3.02? Something for the Beta testers to report.

[@mention:1566878603992423] regarding your re-registration problem, which I have never seen reported during beta testing, have you tried stopping and restarting the IOS app so it has another look for your rooms? Also have you discovered that you can force the IOS app to look for rooms again by pulling it down and releasing it, like you do to refresh email on an iPhone?

best

David

Hi Clive,

The buttons have  been like that  since day one, I’m afraid. ????

Cheers, Dave. Obviously I didn't study it closely enough before.

Hi [@mention:1566878603992423] - I think the screen you are referring to is the Help screen that we show when the App is unable to discover any products automatically.  The reference about connecting to Wi-Fi relates to the phone - a reminder to make sure that the phone is connected to a Wi-Fi access point on the same network as the product itself in case it has switched to a different one.  The product itself can be wired to that network no problem - they just need to be able to see each other.

Without that screen you would just see a blank screen with no advice on what to do next or what might be causing the issue.  I'll review the wording to see if we can clarify this.

So your experience suggests to me that for some reason the App is not seeing the ND555 which may be down to your network topology blocking our SSDP and Bonjour/mDNS discovery mechanisms.  When you use the plus symbol you are adding a device manually and therefore directly addressing the ND555 and whatever was blocking the broadcast traffic is bypassed.  For example if the ND555 and the wireless access point are on different subnets, the direct IP will traverse but discovery won't (usually).

We'd need to know more info to help further, so please contact our Tech Support if you need further assistance.

Hi Greg - I can post this also on the Beta site as I'm now registered as a tester with you.

I have Ethernet-only. iPad running latest IOS version. I plug-in ethernet and the iPad can see network and browse web-sites, etc..

But the Naim app complains I do't have WiFi and blocks - there is no way past that black screen but to re-register again as I said so I do that. The previous Release App from pre-October did not have this problem, so I think it is something introduced into the latest App version.

I was advised to stay with this Release version until a new Beta is ready to test - when it is I will try it.

Network is simple - House Internet Router to Cisco switch (dedicated just for HiFi stuff) - and that switch takes the Controlling iPad with App directly on a port and another port on that switch feeds the Melco Music server which in turn feeds the ND555.

Hi Greg,

It is always good to see Naim engaging with their  customers. Any chance of having the same consideration with those  people who are  concerned, on another thread,  about  having problems with their streamers displays, who feel somewhat disengaged and ignored by the company.

Kindest regards,

Tony

Tony, I don't wish to hijack this thread, but you say you feel disengaged and ignored by Naim, but have you spoken or corresponded with anyone at the company about this?

Taking a personal view here, it seems to me that the situation with the lifespan of OLED displays is a somewhat akin to laser mechs; If there are any that fall below standard then they would likely fail either during manufacture, test, or the warranty period. And like lasers, while some might die young, many more may happily keep on working for as reasonable lifespan. Beyond that, AKAIK, Naim can still replace any displays, although now having learned that OLED lifespan may possibly be finite then it's probably best not to leave them on all the time. The main point here is that Naim can still offer replacements, even on kit that's nigh on 10 years old. Now, whether there is any way to better predict or weed out any displays that may fail earlier than usual, I don't know. Like laser mechs, OLED seems to be another industry learning curve. Anyway, that's probably only something that Naim could comment on. I will try to find out.

p.s. Incidentally, I realise that my own UQ is now fairly long in the tooth, however, I note that in spite of being used more heavily than any of my other systems, it is still working well and the display is bright and without any issues.  Likewise, I have yet to come across a failed display on any of the Uniti units with family and friends - I'll definitely know about it if it happens! I know that may be cold comfort for those less fortunate (and maybe I have just jinxed my UQ) but just thought a little extra perspective here was needed.

I'll contact you directly, but if I misunderstood your configuration and you are saying you have your iPad wired to your switch with a lighting-to-ethernet adapter, then that is not a configuration we currently support for automatic discovery, but I'll add it to our feature discussions.

Hi Greg - my Email address has changed as my old one has been killed by my Service Provider destroying my mail server. I've updated it for the Naim site and will mail you - as I can't access or read anything sent to the old address after 6th Nov.

Thanks for discussing supporting this config ahead.

Anyone else lost all their internet radio stations since applying this update?

What a pleasure...vs my NDS and UnitiQute2....to just update the ND555 from the Naim app
