1 Channel Down

Posted by: Jonners on 11 November 2018

Hello Forum Members - I have a channel down and I'm looking for some help on potential trouble-shooting I've not already thought of.

I've a 200/282 combo powered by a non-Naim PSU which is the equivalent of 2 Hi-Caps and an SC module in one. I've a TV, TT and CDX2 plugged into this lot and I only have the right channel working.

All sources work fine, but only on the one channel. There is no flashing mute button on the 282. I've swapped the speakers around and both are fine. I've disconnected and reconnected interconnects. The mono button's not on and neither is mute. I've turned on and off again but to no avail. All I've done today is some cleaning of my connections and swapped my Rega Aria phono around with the PSU from left to right on the same shelf. Did that this morning. Came home tonight, 1 channel.

The 200/282 were serviced about 3 months ago.

Thoughts and suggestions/potential diagnosis all welcome but at the moment it's looking like I'll be shipping the 200/282 both off for investigation.

Try powering the 282 from the 200, taking the Non-Naim PSU out of the picture. That's an easy way to help with process of elimination.

Quick update for anyone who is interested in my plight. It was getting on a bit last night so I decided to leave the test RaceTipper advised until today. I turned everything off at the wall and went to bed.

I switched back on this morning and I'm back in business, all sources working just fine. I'm leaving everything on to see if it holds up, I may have damaged something when moving the PSU and Aria around and/or cleaning the interconnects which may raise its arise when it gets warm. Bit strange though isn't it?

I had a dead channel on 202/200 FCXS NASPC after a loud session and thought it might have been some sort of internal protection which I don't think either has.

I left it off overnight and it's been fine ever since for 6+ months - sticky relay was one suggestion I was given. Relieved all been fine!

It is odd, it's been totally fine for 12 years, then I get it serviced and now this happens! I hope it'll still be up when I get home tonight and/or not caused an electrical fire and burned the place down!
