Naim Atom - How to stop auto power off?

Posted by: jarvicseven on 12 November 2018

I'm using a Naim Atom as the amplifier for my desktop computer set up,

My problem is the stupid thing switch's itself off all the time, I've only had it for 3 days and am already sick to the back teeth of having to switch it back on!

Thinking about returning it to the shop,

Never had this problem with the Rega Brio R that it replaced,

Any advice on how to stop it constantly doing this please?

Thanks in advance.

To add to that, then after 20mins the main display will go off, but the power light and 4 buttons stay backlit.

Note though i found when i did this in the past, i did have to power cycle as the Naim app would lose its connection and would not discover the room or device.

Standby mode should obviously not engage when music is playing, and setting auto-standby to ‘Never’ in the app is the workaround solution. This is an issue that has been noted before when using HDMI and some Chromecast sources. You should report your findings to Naim to ensure they are aware that a proper fix is required.

Which input are you using to connect the PC?

What a tit I am, I've now dowloaded the app to my iPad and changed the setting,

All is well once again,

Thank you very much to everyone for the replies and setting me straight,

At the moment I'm using the USB output with a Dragonfly Red straight into the analogue input, I've ordered a Wireworld Supernova optical cable though, so I can do away with the Dragonfly as soon as it arrives,

Heres my desktop rig, I'd be grateful for any advice on how to improve it, particularly the speaker cables,

Wireworld Supernova

Naim Atom

Chord Odyssey Speaker cable

PMC DB1+ speakers,

Thanks again for the advice and help,

It’ll be interesting to see how the Atom’s DAC compares to the Dragonfly, which is surprisingly good for such a tiny device - you might be surprised. Depending on what sources you listen to, there are a few different ways of connecting a Mac to it, including UPnP, Roon, Airplay, Chromecast, Toslink etc. all of which might sound a little different.

Nothing wrong with Chord Oddysey as long as you have properly soldered bananas, but there are lots of alteratives. For starters, I would ask your dealer if he has some NACA5 that you can try.
