Active ATCs

I'm getting more and more interested in a pair of the larger active ATCs - probably SCM50 asl given size constraints. Does anyone have any recent experience with these? I'm thinking about replacing my 500DR/SL2. RJStaines i know that you have a recent pair of active 100s do you have an update as to how you're finding them? Having a dem in a week or two btw!
I just demoed the SCM50 passive, damn good sound....maybe just a little too much for my room size unfortunately (25M2)..am demoing the SCM40 Active next week/week after..
..tempted to try the SCM50 Active...
What size is yr room..
'TESILK' has both the Active SCM50 and SCM20, and I think previously the Active SCM40...I messaged him recently and he was very helpful..
Good luck and let us all know how it goes.

I owned a pair of active 40s and really loved everything about them from top to bottom, only moved on as they offered too much bass for my modest room (4m x 4.2m). Top drawer speakers.
I owned Passive ATC 19s powered by a 250DR for a couple of years and loved them . My listening room was a double reception 3.8 x 7m in a Victorian house . Last year we knocked the rear wall down and extended open plan into the kitchen adding about 30sqm . With this increase in space and wanting to reduce boxes I wanted to try some larger Active ATCs , preferably the 50s . I demoed 40s and 50s in both Passive and Active configuration always preferring the Actives by some margin . I also heard some Active 100s and wish I'd extended the house some more ..
I eventually settled on Active 40s as they were very close to the 50s and work really well in my new layout . They are absolutely stunning speakers , even my girlfriend keeps commenting on them ! The Active 40s were recommended to me on more than one occasion by ATC employees who apparently see them as the "Bargain" of their range .
Admittedly I would go higher up the ATC range if I had more room but I don't feel I'm compromising at all with the 40s .
What are the room dimensions the ATC40 and ATC50 work well with? I'm also contemplating a switch to active ATCs where my room is about 13m long and 4m wide
Not definitive, from my (not extensive) experience, the 50's prob need 35-50M2...the 40's prob 20-35 M3, below this maybe the 19's or 20's
May depend on which way you are firing your speakers,...across the room (width)....or down the room (length)....
Trying them in your room is the way forward..
good luck

I have tried both the 19A and the 40A at home. They are the same size but different projection. Loved both - in the end I chose the 40A which had more of that big-speaker sound. Use IsoAcoustic Gaia II if you need to tame bass. I currently use Townshend Podiums under the speakers which is better but at 4x the cost of the already costly Gaia.
