From Supernait 2 to NAC252/NAP300
Posted by: PPT on 26 November 2018
Hi all,
I’m planning to move progressively from my Supernait 2 to pre amp NAC252 + power amp NAP300.
As this upgrade requires a big investment I’m wondering if I can handle it in two steps.
Is it feasible to introduce either the NAP300 using my Supernait 2 as pre-amp, or starting introducing the NAC252 as first upgrade using the Supernait 2 as power amp?
Please help me in understanding whether one of the two approach can work to split the upgrade into 2 steps.

You can certainly add the 300 to the SN2, adding the 252 to your system later. Not so sure about the 252 first, using the SN power amp. You'd obviously be connecting from the SuperCap. Looks like it would work, but not 100% sure. Pulling the link plug would remove power from the pre-amp, but that shouldn't be a bother, as you're using the 252 instead.
To connect a NAP300 to a Supernait 2 you would need a custom siamesed interconnect as the NAP300 normally requires two DIN4s.
However, of the two options, I would go NAC252 first, using the Supernait as a power amp. You'll need a SNAIC 4 to take pre-amp signal from the NAC252's Supercap to the Power Amp IN socket of the Supernait.
Alternatively, add the SuperCap first, which has all the outputs needed for a NAP300. The SC can power the SN2 and then will be required for the 252 anyway. Then you can decide whether to do the 252 or 300 first. I'd side with Richard and add the 252. But either way, you need a SC.
Another vote of support for the FZ / Richard approach.

Thanks Richard!
To be sure I've correctly understood: I can connect NAC252 to the Supernait through the Supercap (which is required by NAC252) using the SNAIC 4 cable. In this way I will use NAC252 + Supercap as Pre-amp and Supernait as Power amp. Is it correct?
Correct.
In Naim World the preamp is king. Another vote for 252 first.

Hi all,
yesterday I had the opportunity to listen to NAC282+SC / NAP300 connected to my loudspeakers (Canton Reference 3K).
it sounded very well. Deep bass, high details.
Is there any big difference between NAC 252 and NAC 282?
i was thinking to move toward 282/300 instead 252/300.
any opinion about that?

I chose 252 over 282, but you should really listen for yourself, in the end it’s your opinion that counts
As Gazza said it down to personal preferences I dd a back to back demo at my dealers this was with a 250dr and much preferred the presentation of the 252 I have since upgraded to a 300dr and this is a superb combination.
Only you can decide.
PPT, do a search on 282 vs 252. The forum is as divided as a metaphorical Brexit on this one. I am firmly in the 252 camp having upgraded from an 82.

Where is the source first brigade?
Of all of the products that Naim makes, the 282/252 Sits on the great divide. I have read countless posts for the 282/sc
and countless posts for the 252/sc. Right now I am using a 282/HCdr/snait and it works very well, the amp in the snait
aint no slouch. If it were me, I would go 282.SCdr/snait and if buying new let settle in for many months THEN
borrow a broken in 252 AND a better source.......I would do in this order
1) plug in the 252 and see what is what
2) go back to 282 and plug in the better source
3) keep the better source and plug in the 252
By starting with the 282/SCdr you will have a reference, and quite a good one.
My reference is 282/HCdr/snait with a 250/dr on the way, will report what I find/hear.
52/SC/250
It all makes no sense if the source is not up to it.
