I'm not sure technically why an Olive Hicap couldn't be DR'd (i seem to remember something about new fixing holes needing to be drilled when the LM317 based regs are replaced with the DR versions). The one in question on Ebay has got DR boards fitted...

But as already mentioned, it's not an official factory approved mod so i'd be wary of who had done the work (and getting on the wrong side of the forum AUP).

Are the DR modules the two bits on the right with 25 stickers? As the Hicap is in Italy maybe it was done by the Italian distributor. Naughty naughty.

So, how did they get to Italy? We need to know. Is there a mole at the factory sending them out in plain brown packaging?

It's an early Hicap too as it has power on socket 3.

I mentioned on Bob the Builders Supercap thread about an olive DR HiCap / Supercap and I do remember an Aussie dealer who had made the conversation.

The Olive HiCap looks like it has the HF transformer and probably spans the best of both worlds on performance.

Theoretically, yes. Practically probably not.

I strongly believe in combining devices from the same era if possible. Contemporaneity as HH this once called nicely.

Maybe I trick myself, but if I run a TT into an Olive setup, it just sounds right. When I add my Hicap DR to the Olive setup, I hear what it does - it is good - but am I in love? Nope.

Richard, FYI Chris Murphy here in NZ Dr’s Olive supercap and hi-cap’s. He even DR’ed my friends cb hi-cap which he had to get special premission from naim to do. He told me he even did a olive xps, but won’t do another one as not enough room.

I’m not sure why Naim in the Uk won’t do it. Maybe it would jam up the jammed up service department.

Sounsfaber, thanks for the info.  It's certainly technically possible, but I was aware that Naim's policy was not to offer it outside of current look kit.  Maybe that policy has changed...

No, been doing it for a long while. I was thinking maybe it supports there few service agents around the world. Chris being the professional he is wouldn’t do it if it didn’t work. My friends CB dr sits in a cds3xps dr 282/2xhi-cap dr/250 dr system with some spendor sp1/2 all powerlines and home Fraim system. Sounds very very good indeed. I would say that his wee cb hicap dr is one of a kind. I just love it to bits very very very kool imo????

I too saw that Olive DR and did consider it at the price being asked it represents great vfm if it’s an official Naim dealer and proper Naim board 

Seems a bit of a mystery why Naim won’t offer this service unless they did it and didn’t rate it sonically although that seems unlikely as the Hicap’s pre DR are almost identical. 

Yes it can be done. I know this to be a fact as I have an olive HC which has been DRed. Sounds great!

My 52PS is due a service in the next year or two. I wonder if........

I can understand updating the regulators in the Classic series cases but I can't see myself having the the DR modules retrofitted in my Olive HC if I could. Wouldn't that detract from from the vintage-ness and what it was originally made for?
